Mrs. Brevard -- I am very late in writing this I am thankful for your husband's long life. Your name comes up frequently at our house -- Barbara Helms (South 1966) and I have been married since 1970 and we still talk about of your senior math class! John Findlay mentioned you recently also. You were GREAT -- many thanks. Russ Robinson South 1965 -- email rarobins8@comcast.net

My deepest condolences. I attended South Meck High School in the early 80s, and Mr. and Mrs. Brevard had tremendous influence on me at the time - the two best teachers in the school and I was blessed to be taught by each of them. I remember high expectations and excellent humor (from Mr. Brevard, when we over-etherized fruit flies, pointing at the open window, "Throw 'em in the morgue!"). My career today (pharmaceutical research) was initiated by their influences, and I am profoundly grateful. Mrs. Brevard, surely our Lord is watching over you, as he did over your marriage to this lovely man.

Dear Eleanor:
Gladys and I were saddened to learn of Leo's passing in December. What a wonderful thing to have had 66 happy and exciting years together. We will reach 60 this Dec., if we both make it until then.
We sure had some great fun times with you two, both at events on the ASU Campus, and especially on the ASU Travel Tours. We shall always treasure those times together. You and your family shall be in our thoughts and prayers as you work though the next few months.. At the same time what wonderful memories that you will have of this great husband, father, grandfather, and friend to so many. God Bless You!

Our Love,
Don and Gladys Lineberger

Mr. Brevard was my biology teacher at South Mecklenburg, "back in the day." He was one of those milestone teachers that you never forget. I remember him fondly and send condolences to Mrs. Brevard and family.

I attended South Meck High 1969-1970 as a sophomore, prior to the "court ordered" redistricting of school assignments that took place fall of 1970 when I was a junior and was "sent' to Olympic High, I had Mrs. Nelson for 10th grade Biology at South meck and was in awe of Mr. Brevard, head of the Science Dept.. He had a reputationas tough, fair, and a great teacher. 5 years later as a junior Biology major at ASU, I did my required semester of student teaching "under" Mr. Brevard, fall of 1975. He had not taken ona student teacher in quite awhile because his last experience with one was not a great one, so I was apprehensive to say the least! That semester he worked my behind off, but he did so with a "gentle" toughness, patience, kindness, respect, and humor. I learned invaluable lessons from him that set the tone for my teaching career in clinical laboratory medicine. He instructed me in practice and example, not only as to how best to teach Biology to a variety of students with varying aptitudes, but to do so in a way that values and respects each student as a person... He was a "teacher's teacher" and a great man.
