Mr Brevard was the best. He was so much more than teacher and coach. He taught his students respect, discipline and gave them the confidence to be successful.

My condolences to Mrs Brevard and family. Mr Brevard (and Mrs Brevard) were the BEST teachers EVER. I remember many of his pearls of wisdom. He was very considerate, knew I could use some assistance and recruited me to plant several acres of trees, and paid me well for a high school student. I have so many fond memories of both. May he rest in peace and may God look down on Mrs Brevard. Respectfully, Dean Passmore

Mr Brevard taught both my wife,Terry, and i at South Mecklenburg back in 1969. We will never forget disecting frogs in his biology class as he instructed, "pick up that frog it will not bite you...it is cleaner than you are!" Yes, he was hard, but the good teachers usually are

Mr. Brevard was my biology teacher at Valdese High School...one of my favorite teachers. I recall class members around his desk to see "what makes a car run". Don't recall what he had on the desk that day but I do recall that it was another interesting lesson. My sympathy to his family.

Mr. Brevard was my tenth grade biology teacher at South Meck in 69-70. He was the hardest, strictest teacher I ever had, and one of the best. We had to have our biology book every day, which we had to place on the front left corner of our lab desks. We could never, ever touch that book. I did a perfect impression of him, and my friends talked me into doing it in front of the class on the last day. I wore white socks with sandals and said Mr. Brevard lines: "You're nothing but a bunch of warm bodies! You're nothing but a bunch of cabbage heads! There's not a student amongst you!" Fortunately for me, Mr. Brevard laughed. A few years later, in college, I needed another science class. I told the biology department I wanted to challenge the class by test to get credit. When I told them the only biology I had was in the tenth grade, they laughed at me. I passed that test and got full college credit for the course. I saw Mr. Brevard a few years after that and thanked him. Our weekly tests on Latin roots and syllables taught me lessons about language that I still use today as a college English professor. Mr. Brevard was an inspiration to me and to thousands of other students. What a hard teacher he was, but what a great one! I thank him for his lifetime of service, in the military, as a conservationist, as a coach, and most of all as a teacher. Please know that in the midst of your loss, many, many people honor his memory.
