Leonard was a sports guy through and through. I inherited him when I came to Richmond in 1995. He was the guy that called in the Braves games every night, and worked on the Richmond football and basketball stat crews, and made sure I was taken care of whenever I showed up. He never got paid for covering the Braves games for us, much to my dismay, but never failed to call in the story, even when he had to wait because news was breaking and we were swamped. In recent years, he covered Richmond football and Richmond and VCU basketball for the AP, and often would rush from one event to the other, covering two events in one day. Often, when I was covering the games, he would come anyway, help if needed, offer stats to me like no one else could during the game, and then cheerfully wish me well when he headed for home. He was as steady as could be, despite his health issues and ailments, and a favorite of the college basketball editors at AP because of his cheerful disposition and knowledge of the games. Leonard was a sports man and a news guy to the core, and Richmond - and the AP - may never see the likes of him again. We were most blessed to have him and will miss him terribly.

I worked side by side with Leonard for many years at Wachovia. Leonard was a true friend. He will be missed by so many folks. Leonard was a very special person. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest in peace Leo.

To me Leonard was a great man. I had the pleasure of hiring him when he was a student, and placing him in the athletic department at the University of Richmond. My judgment was never wrong in his case. I looked upon Leonard as another son. He always did a great job in whatever he was asked to do.

I am sorry for the loss you bear. Please know I share in your loss and will miss him dearly. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I had to pleasure of being with Leonard almost every night for 13 summers and at many other sporting events and venues. It was an honor to get to know him and work with him. Truly a great loss for us all. Prayers and condolences to the family.
