Our hearts go out to the Canelakes family for this terrible, shocking loss.

We had the pleasure of getting to know Lou back in the 1970s when he bar-backed for Joe Miller, then followed him to the East Dallas digs where he and brother Chris established one of the world's best watering holes and dining establishments.

He proved to be a loyal friend and fan over the next quarter century of late nights and poker sessions. One time when our car was stolen from his parking lot, he closed his place down early so he could personally drive us 30 miles home. That's just the kind of guy he was. He always made you feel special.

We will forever fondly remember his gruff kindness and acerbic wit.

RIP, Lou "The Prince of Pour" Canelakes. You were the best.
