Martha Jayne Embry Rushing died Monday, October 24, 2011 at St. Dominic Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Clinton. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton.
Jayne was born August 13, 1935 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, spent most of her early years in Jackson, Mississippi, moved to Clinton in 1949 and graduated from Clinton High School in 1953.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Embry and her older brother Robert Embry Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Clifton L. Rushing Jr. of Clinton and her three children, DeLynn Henry, Cliff Rushing III, and Pam Parks McCord (David). A loving and caring woman in every sense of the word, her love for her grandsons knew no bounds: Blake Henry, Taylor Parks, Graham Henry and Peyton Parks.
She was beautiful (Miss Jackson in 1955), strong and resourceful (wife of a United States Marine for 22 years) and active in her church and community. She was a member of First United Methodist Church Clinton. She served on many of its leadership committees, the Martha Ministry and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of Clinton Friends of the Library, Clinton Arts Council, The Happy Gardener's Club, and a Birthday Club "The Chick Flicks".
Words cannot portray her wonderfully bright spirit. This world is a better place and we are far better people because of her. Our hearts are broken.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Clinton Martha Ministry or any charity of your choice.

Cliff, I think of you and Jayne every now and then still. She was a beautiful and gracious Southern lady. I will always remember fondly our times afield hunting behind our Brittanies for the elusive quail around Clinton. I haven't done that in quite some time now and due to health reasons, probably never will, I guess. I do want to drop in on you some time and visit. Take care, my friend. Semper Fi.

Clifton Lee, DeLynn, Pam, Cliff III---I was tearfully devastated last night to read that your beloved Jayne had died---and what a legacy she left with us all. In my mind, I can see her now, in her favorite hat and is probably organizing a "Heavenly Landscape Beautification Crew"---& heaven will undoubtedly be even more beautiful. No surprise to any of you, she was a loving, "say-it-like-it-is", gentle, thoughtful person. We are all strengthened by memories of her!!

My dearest Cliff, Lindy, Pam, and Bubba. I am SO very heart broken over Jayne's death. My tears of sadness and sorrow can only be comforted by all the fond memories of Jayne and myself sharing a glass of wine, or two, buying a Dr. Pepper and a Moon Pie to share as we sat on the bank of the river on our way home from a commissary "run" at Quantico just enjoying one another's company, and I so remember how pretty Jayne was for every U.S. Marine Corps Birthday Ball. She was always pretty, though, inside and out. Although we had not seen one another in a few years, we kept up with each other through email, phone, and Christmas letter. I will miss her and will keep her beautiful soul in my heart always.
My Jim joins me in deep sympathy, Love Susan and Jim Holtan

I had the honor of knowing Ms. Jayne thru my church, First United Methodist in Clinton. There was never a time that she wasn't laughing and always smiling. I can remember the last time I saw her, just a few weeks ago, we were laughing and joking about the hat she was wearing. Even thru her illness, she still had a great sense of humor. She was truly a genuine lady. She will be greatly missed by all. May she Rest in Peace.
