Nancy Ann Lodine 1926 - 2012

Nancy Ann Lodine

Wednesday, May 30, 2012
My wife, Ann, and I wish to express our respects to Nancy and extend our heartfelt sympathy to Wally and their family in their loss. We know Nancy primarily through our friendship with her son, Paul, her daughter-in-law, Ellen and their daughters at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Portland. What a wonderful family! They reflect the love given to them and the examples set for them by Nancy and Wally.

I will remember the hello and goodbye kisses, pulled in close so you could feel that she didn't want you to go. I will remember her nodding along to "Autumn Leaves" and demanding that that one bassoon solo be played on that one old record. I will aspire to her curiosity and love of learning. I will tuck the memories away of trips to FAO Schwartz and the movies and Ocean Shores and all those Thanksgivings and Christmases where she'd bustle up the walk at 300 Highland Drive, Grandpa behind her loaded down with bags of Arthurs' Bakery soft bread sticks and Danish and Frangos and the coolest battery-operated toys.

I will miss Nancy for the support and love she gave each family member, always remembering each grandchild's and great-grandchild's interests and skills, birthdays and holidays with funny and touching cards and letters. She was a wonderful wife, mother and mother-in-law. I know she is at peace.

I can't believe my Grandma Nancy is gone. I miss her and valued my relationship with her very much. She always sent me the most thoughtful cards...for every birthday, holiday, and special event. She always was interested in the details of my life and that of my husband and girls. I have so many memories stored up from my life that include her. I will always feel a piece of me gone now that she isn't here anymore. Grandma, you made things special and I always felt your support. In my mind, I can hear your voice, see your hands and the way they moved, and smell the way you smelled. I will never forget you and all the things you did to make my life better.

Grandma Nancy was an important person in my life. She encouraged my love of reading, history, and literature. She showed her love by picking out meaningful and unique gifts for each person she loved. Every year she selected and carefully wrote a beautiful birthday card especially for each family member. Grandma shared with me her love of poignant moments and themes in art and music, often having me sit down and really listen to songs with her so they became part of my own understanding of the world. I will always miss you, Grandma and wish our time together had been longer. Thank you for your love and all of the time you spent encouraging me and showing interest in my studies and life.
