I want to thank everyone who either attended my Dad's wake and/or Funeral, sent a card, wrote those wonderful words I just read in this guest book and all other well wishes and sympathetic words of comfort.
My Dad meant the world to me and my 4 children. He was always there for my Mom and the rest of us, no matter what we needed or asked of him. I'm trying to fill those "big" shoes of his but, damn it's not easy!
I miss him very much......
I had the privilege of working with Bob in the MIT News Office for several years and really enjoyed his warmth, no-nonsense style and sense of humor. He was a great example of the now-dying breed of classic newspaper-person -- a fast and accurate writer and editor with a great instinct for news. I'll miss hearing his banter with Charlie Ball. My deepest condolences to Bob's family and friends.
Bob was very kind to me when I joined the MIT news office years ago. He made it more fun to go to work. I am very sorry to hear of his death.
Bob meant a great, great deal to me. He was a mentor of mine for many years at the MIT News Office. About three years ago I called him after a personal setback. Soon afterwards he sent me a long letter introducing me to Julian of Norwich, one of his favorite saints, whose message was that "all shall be well." At Bobby's funeral I told this to my dear friend Lisa Damtoft, and she immediately started humming a song called Julian of Norwich. She sent me the mp3, and it's wonderful. There are a number of renditions of the song on iTunes; it is a wonderful way to remember Bob and his calm, wise counsel.
we were sadden to find out about the passing of Bob. He always had a smile on his face and always a friendly word. Our Deepest sympathies to you and your family. Beth AND Michael Scanlon
