I attended Bob's memorial service and thought his sons and daughter-in-law, together with the excellent DVD presentation, covered his life's story very well. I might add/emphasize that he was not only an encourager to his family but also to many others -- including me. On my 60th birthday (in 1999), my daughter invited a bunch of my friends (including coaches and teachers) to send a letter to be compiled into a book. I was greatly honored by the note sent by Bob. It was included verbatim in my biography, The Moon and More, as presented below.
I wish you a very happy 60th birthday.
David, having observed White Oak sports for 51 years, I consider you to be the best all-round athlete White Oak has ever produced and also one of the best all-round students. It is a rarity to have a student that excelled in sports and academics and had a successful career and still be humble and courteous and have a deep faith in God.
Hope to see you on your 65th.
So maybe he lacked good judgement about such things, but you can see why he was one of my favorite guys.
Your Dad was a very good man and a treat to have known. He always had a smile and a pat on the back for you. May God Bless you and your family.

Mike, so sorry to hear about your dads passing. Thoughts and prayers with you and your family.
What a remarkable man and my Uncle. I did not know some of these things about him. I remember he and Aunt Mildred as wonderful hosts as we visited them when my siblings and I were children. Kind, hospitable, wonderful, talented is how I will remember "Uncle Bob"
Mike, So sorry about your loss. He was a great teacher and coach. Our prayers are with you and the entire family. Ted & Betty Miller
