Sammi Carpenter is celebrating this Easter with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She started her journey on April 3, 2012 at 5:22 PM. She was a special child that left lifesize memories with everyone that knew her. As her life emerged, she was diagnosed to be mentally challenged, but as her personality revealed itself, and the love and compassion she had for everyone, we decided she was normal and the rest of us were mentally challenged.
Sammi was born on December 11, 1966 in Cabarrus County, and was a 1988 graduate of A. L. Brown High School. She was an active member of St. Enoch Lutheran Church and was a member of the Special Olympics. She worked at Rowan Vocational Opportunites in Salisbury.
She is survived by her dovoted mother and father, Johnny and Martha Carpenter, who will miss her more than words can ever say, brothers, John Scott Carpenter and wife Sally, Jimmy C. Carpenter and wife Kelly and Shane David Carpenter. Also nephews, Nicholas, Corey, Dylan, Jonathan and great niece Emma survive her. Aunts and uncles, Dale and wife Judy Carpenter of Landis, Jeanie and husband Wade Beaver of China Grove, Charlie Campbell, Kenneth and wife Sherry Campbell of Kannapolis. Carl and wife Kim Campbell of Lincolnton, and aunts Kathy Cable of Salisbury and Faye and husband Jerry Bowers of Faith.
Vistiation will be on Friday at Linn Honeycutt Funeral Home in Landis from 6:00 til 8:00 with funeral on Saturday at 11:00 am at St. Enochs Lutheran Church, with Pastor John Mark Beam, minister. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Rowan Vocational Opportunities , 2728 Old Concord Rd. Salisbury, NC 28146. A special thanks to doctors and nurses at Northeast Medical Center, 4th floor in Concord and especially Dr. David Rhodes of Northeast Digestive and Cat Drye of Rowan Vocational Opportunities.

Sammi was a very loving person. She always had a smile. She loved to sing to me while I was driving her to RVO. Her favorite and mine was [The Gambler]. She told me that her Dad taught her that song. She is already being missed by many. God bless the family for comfort and understanding. God gained an angel.

May God be with you during your lost. I remember Sammi in the first kindergarten class at Landis school. She was always a very loving child to be around. Johnny I know you remember everytime you went by mothers house(Edna Ketner)she always wanted to stop and most of the time you did. She always like mother and mother enjoyed seeing her everytime she could she still talks about Sammi wanting to see Mrs.Ketner. May God bless all of you at this time but one day we will all see her again.

I'm already missing my little Sammi. We always picked with each other and my last episode was a few nights before she went to meet Jesus. I gave her an Easter Bunny and she told me to put it on a shelf in a cabinet next to her bed. Not long afterwards, I picked it up to show someone that it would sing :Jesus Loves Me" She immediately said: BILL leave my Bunny Rabit alone, you gave it to me and put it back on the shelf right now! Of course I obeyed her command and said "YES MAM" Everyone there got a big laugh out of it.
Sammi, keep all of our friends and family up there with you entertained until we see you again.
Nila and I love and miss you.

Although I had not seen Sammi in a while I never forgot that smile and all the laughter we shared at Dale and Judy's.
I will be attending Special Olympics soon at my brother's school in Morganton....and I will think of Sammi with a smile... and say a prayer for her family and all those that loved her. God really does have a special place for these children! Rest in peace Sammi. Job well done.

I was so saddened to hear of your loss of Sammi. She was more than a daughter I know she was a special gift from God. He placed her in such a loving home that she was able to be herself and so surounded by love. She never met a stranger and now she is probably sharing some of her jokes in Heaven her Dad taught her. Me as well as my Church are praying for God's grace and mercy to help you through this time and know you will see her again soon, she will be waiting with that beaming smile. Debra Morrow Gramling

My Dad and Sam had a very special relationship both of them would light up at first sight of one another. I knew from the beginning that Sam was special. When I was a kid I thought Sam was the coolest teenage I had ever met, being 9 years my senior, She paid attention to me and we were able to have fun. Has I got older I realized Sammie was different, not in a good or bad way, just different. Now that I am an adult realize how different from the rest of us she is. She loved completely and unconditionally, and once you gain her love it was for life. She did not suffer from the blind ambition that so many of us exhibit today saying or doing whatever we have to stay ahead. At times in a conversation between us I would gain a small glimpse into her world, with her I could slow down and see things, how they really are, and not what I perceive. Her sometimes “dry” sense of humor would leave me in stitches. She emanated energy, a child like essence that made all of us remember what it was like to be young again, get excited about the small things in life. Yes Sam was different and in the entire important ways better.
