It is hard to put into words a “goodbye” to Steve. He held a high standard. He encouraged the people who were privileged enough to be part of his life to go far and dream big. He was always the gentleman. He treasured his friends, family and awesome daughter more than anything else on earth. Steve, you taught me so much. I will never forget you. Thank you.
Thanks for all the good memories while we were at UF even jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.
I am truly sorry about the loss of Steve. My deep condolences to the Allen Family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
You have been on my mind day and night since hearing about your passing. I'm sorry I never had the chance to tell you one more time what you meant to me. I hope to see you again in eternity. Forever yours . . .
I was heartsick to hear of Steve's passing. Although I had not seen him in several years, we had been the closest of friends from junior high school through college and beyond. We shared so much as teenagers and young men; our secrets, our aspirations, our fears and concerns, but mostly a sense that life (at least in those days) was a series of adventures, big and small. I will never forget our times together, canoeing the Withlacoochee and Suwanee Rivers, hiking on the Appalachian Trail in the Smoky Mountains, skydiving in our college days, and rafting on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon -- not to mention the hours of mundane stuff like sports, camping and the weekend-long barbeques (Viking Eatouts) in Gainesville.
Although separated by a thousand miles over the past three decades, we checked in with each other from time to time for milestone life events, and Steve was always a constant; compassionate, rock-solid, funny, intelligent and insightful. I see from the comments in this memoriam that these thoughts are shared by many.
Steve was a kind and generous soul. We are all richer for having had him as part of our lives but now a little poorer with his loss. To his family, I wish you strength and peace as you grieve and move forward. Our thoughts are with you.
