Virgil Ralph Dirks 1928 - 2013

Virgil Ralph Dirks

Tuesday, October 08, 2013
I was a student of Virgil's at Grace College in Omaha in the 1980's.

I always experienced Virgil as a compassionate, unique, interesting, and lovable man; I have good memories of him. He seemed to want to serve people where they were—serving them without having to change them.

Memory Eternal Virgil!

My memories of Virgil go back to the early fifties when he was pastoring the little church at Brainard, KS. My parents had begun growing in the Lord and were looking for a church that would support them in that growth. While we attended that church, Virgil baptized me (at the age of 14) in a spring-fed creek. As we reminisced last November about that baptism, we both remembered how cold that water was!
The next period of association revolves around my years at Berean Academy where he was Superintendent and one of my teachers. I loved and respected him.
Finally, I was delighted to spend time with him as a friend and fellow-resident here at Go Ye Village – times of sweet fellowship and rejoicing together in the blessings of God on our lives. I will miss him but I look forward to being with him again in glory!

Mrs. Dirks and Family: My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to you and to your loved ones. Yet, I rejoice with you as we celebrate Mr. Dirks' life and his promotion to glory to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Truly he taught all of us at Markoma to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. I am thankful for Mr. Dirks' strong input into my life; he helped me grow spiritually. I'm specifically grateful for his encouragement to me in Christian ministries: taught me to sing in the choir (I couldn't sing so he put me between two guys who could), challenged me to teach a Sunday School class, and to preach for chapel and at the Muskogee jail. It seems he always knew how to motivate me – just make it a challenge! The three years I was at Markoma were a turning point in my life. I don't know where I would be today if it were not for Mr. Dirks and Markoma, and the presence of the Lord to mold and shape me. Sincerely in Christ, Watching for His Return, Warren (Lois) Hiebert, Class of '64.
