William H. Courtney

I only realized that Bill passed on recently because he no longer received E Mails from the Personnel Bureau. We were in the PA together; he being my class Sgt.
It was always a pleasure dealing with Bill, a true professional.

I only knew Bill I short time, but my life is richer because of it. Instantly he made me feel like family and losing him feels like losing an Uncle - a favorite Uncle. I so thoroughly enjoyed spending time with he and Joan and hoped that one day I could have a husband look at me like he looked at Joan - Bill knew I found just that - they are my inspiration. I will miss him dearly!

We're so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. Bill was a great man who brought much good to this world. He will be missed. Thanks to Bill and Joan who shared years of friendship with my parents, Charles and Betty McLaughlin, in California.

Sincerest sympathy to Joan and the entire Courtney family. I first met Sergeant "Commander of Detective Squad" Bill Courtney in 1973, when he came to the Police Academy and pulled me out for a Special Assignment in the Intelligence Division. Years later, as I moved through the NYPD I became active in the Fraternal Organizations and as President of the International Police Association, NYC Region 2. I met Bill at every level of the Fraternal Organizations. He was a wealth of knowledge, a great boss and always gave sound advise. As President of the Committee of Police Societies, he brought all the NYPD Organizations together to work for a common goal. He was my first Sgt. "On The Job". We will always remember him.

I have known Bill for 73 years and will miss him dearly. He was a great friend and as young fellows we had many fun times hanging around with our other buddies (the Lucky 13 Gang) in Parkchester. When we became adults, we had to go our separate ways, get married, raise our kids and pursue our careers. In our retirement years, it was Bill who got those of us still around from the Lucky 13 back together again. Our bond of friendship was still as strong as ever and I am so sad that he is gone. Rest in peace, Bill. Your friend, Bob Lord, Danbury, CT
