Colonel (retired) Woodrow W. Wiltse 1918 - 2013

Colonel (retired) Woodrow W. Wiltse

April 30, 2013
I first met Colonel Wiltse when he served as an Ambassador with the Norman Chamber of Commerce when I worked there in the mid-late 80's and early 90's. He always had a warm smile and a big hug for me, even years later when I would run into him at Homeland in the mornings. We have lost another hero and member of the Greatest Generation, they don't make men like that anymore. The Wiltse Family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

COL Wiltse was my Professor of Military Science from 1965 thru 1969 in ROTC at OU. He was my hero and helped shape my life as a cadet and young officer. Luckily, we renewed our friendship the last few years. He will never be forgotten.

I have had the privelege of knowing Woodrow since 1998 when I joined the Ambassadors Committee for the Norman Chamber of Commerce and he was the chairman at that time. He was a wonderful "gentlemen" to all who came in contact with him. He enjoyed popping pop corn for our meetings and having cake with us each month. Sydney Shilling

I met Col Wiltse for the first time just about 2 weeks ago. I had coffee with he and a group of other Veterans at Homeland last week. He and I became friends instantly and we had a wonderful visit. We talked about our experiences as both having been Colonels in the Army Field Artillery. His great smile and whit will be greatly missed by all who knew him. I am so honored to have met him and enjoyed our friendship even if only for such a very short period of time. The world has lost a great soldier and a great human being.
