Before we really got to know each other, Alex and I took trumpet lessons with Frank together. Frank used to have us compete against each other with whole note contests, and every week I'd ask how long Alex held the note for so I could try to beat him. Early middle school we also had to perform buglers holiday, but we could both barely make it through the piece, so when it came time to put it together we spent more time goofing off than rehearsing. We also sat next to each other playing trumpet all through middle school and high school. Looking back, all those years seem like the blink of an eye. I remember some days we'd get in so much trouble for goofing off all the time, but he made it so much more fun. One time we threw a pencil at each other and I honestly thought we were going to get thrown out of rehearsal. I looked forward to band because I knew that sitting next to Alex it'd always be fun and an adventure, and that guaranteed I'd never be bored. My prayers go out to the family, and I will always remember and cherish the memories.
