PETERS, Martha “Marty” Caroline Sielaff, age 80, of Rochester Hills, MI and Venice, FL, died Sunday, April 13, 2014 in Venice, FL with her family by her side. Marty was born in Cleveland Ohio on November 11, 1933. With a harpist scholarship, she graduated from The Ohio State University in 1955 with a Home Economics degree. At Ohio State, she joined the Chi Omega sorority. She was employed for 5 years in Cleveland with the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company as a home economist. Her family moved to Rochester Hills, MI in 1971. Starting in 1979, she worked in the Rochester Community Schools for 16 years before retiring. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert “Bob”; their children, Doug (Gail) Peters, Keith (Martha) Peters, and Laura Peters; grandchildren, Nick, Megan, Jamie, Tim & Gretchen Peters; sisters, Lois (the late Wally) Jeffery and Jean (Larry) Hjelle; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Lydia Sielaff. Marty was involved in numerous organizations, such as Meadowbrook Women’s Club, Meadowbrook Hall, Chi Omega Alumni Association, Older Person’s Commission (OPC), Rochester Prayer Breakfast committee; actively volunteering at Venice Presbyterian Church and committees at the Wesley Place in the Venice Waterford complex. She was an avid reader and duplicate bridge player, playing every week whenever she could get it in. She was loved by many and will be remembered for a constant positive attitude, her kindness and her gentle heart, helping anyone and everyone, upbeat smiling face, and joy of life. She loved to walk the beach and the neighborhood, travel the world, cook outstanding meals, bake yummy desserts, play after-dinner games, and gardening. Visitation will be Thursday, April 24th, 5-9p.m. and Friday, April 25th, 4-9 p.m.at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Dr., Rochester, MI.
