Richard Martinez born August 7, 1922 in Houston, Texas to parents Anita and Manuel Martinez will be welcomed into heaven. Survived by wife Olivia Martinez of 66 years, granddaughters Iva Martinez-Lantrip (Jason) and Olivia Martinez-Hennessey (J.R.), three great-grandchildren Sophia, Joseph, and Tamsin, brother Edward Martinez (Maria Elena) and sisters Mary Vaughn, Minerva Soto (Louis) and Anita Roth. Preceded in death by son Albert Martinez, and parents Anita and Manuel Martinez, brother Climente Martinez and sister Irene Martinez. Upon graduating from high school Richard was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1942 where he proudly served for 22 years. Retired in 1965 after serving in World War II, Korea Conflict, and Vietnam War. Richard received numerous commendations including the Bronze Star, Presidential Unit Citation and 4 Army Oak Leaf Cluster Metals. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Past Master of Coronado Lodge #1406 AF & AM and Scottish Rite Bodies Lodge #1111. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Harding Orr & McDaniel Funeral Home with a Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 8 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Coronado Lodge #1406, 4001 Gibson-Veck, El Paso, Texas 79922 or Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Wellborne St., Dallas, TX. 75219.
