Mike was born in Seneca Falls on May 26, 1939, a son of the late Elmer and Ruth (Miller) Martz. He was a member of the Ovid High School Class of 1957, and proudly served in the US Army during the early 1960's. Mike had a long career at Willard Psychiatric Center, retiring after more than 37 years of service as a therapy aide. He was an avid gardener, and took great pride in maintaining his gardens and lawns. His home was always joyfully decorated for the holidays, with special attention to creating a Winter Wonderland for his grandchildren at Christmas time. Mike loved bowling and had a sanctioned 300 game to his credit. Mike had also been a life member and very active in the South Seneca Sportsmen's Club for many years and loved working on the breakfast crew during the fall and winter.
Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather (Papa), and great-grandfather. He loved reading to his great-grandson Tony.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Carol; and his children, Lisa (Gary) Whitney of Coventry, R.I., Michael (Jennifer) Martz of Fayette, Dedee (Bruce) Wilkes of Phelps, Jeffrey (Molly) Martz of Buffalo, Kevin Martz of Corning and Merideth Mayo of Ovid; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandsons; his sisters-in-law, Janice Martz of Liverpool and Shirley Works of Lake City, Fla. and their families.

Elmer and I worked together for years and even bowled at the Ovid Lanes s long time ago. We always greeted each other as him being "Company" and me being "The Union". We lost some contact since the closure of Willard but he will always be remembered by myself and everyone that ever knew him. My regards to the family.

From my childhood memories until the last time I saw him he was my very special cousin. When ever Iky & Mikey would visit it was the next thing to Christmas in July. Iky was the funny one and Mikey was the kind one who would sometimes let me, the girl cousin, tag along on their adventures. I did love Carol and him although I got to see little of them in our older lives. At my bro's house for the family get together it was "catch-up time" to see what all the kids and grands were doing. What a wonderful family He and Carol made! I will always hold him in my heart. All of this comes from my bro Art as well as me. Art is away from his computer right now. All our love and prayers are with you, Carol. Love, Your cousin, Sharon
