Aylene Towler Obituary
SANDY LEVEL-Aylene (Doots) Barbour Towler -The Lord came and called his faithful servant, Aylene (Doots) Barbour Towler home Saturday, December 31, 2011. Born July 6, 1927 in the Sandy Level area of Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Quitman Lee (Tom) Barbour and Ida Birdie Myers Barbour. She was predeceased by her husband, Jackson (Jack) David Towler to whom she was a loving wife for over 50 years; one son, Marvin (Mudcat) Towler; an infant daughter; four brothers, Marvin Barbour, Clayton Barbour, Morris (Whitey) Barbour, and Audrey Barbour,; three sisters, Lois Barbour, Aylor (Sis) Lipscomb, and Doris Finney. Mrs. Towler was a faithful member of New Bethel Church of the Brethren where served as Sunday School Superintendent, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and served numerous other positions. She enjoyed traveling with her sisters, sewing, crocheting, quilting, crafts, reading and spending time with her family. Mrs. Towler was a former employee of Craddock-Terry, Chatham Knitting Mill and was a home maker. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Jerry D. Towler and wife, Judy of Danville; one brother, Wilson (Pop) Barbour and wife Shirley of Martinsville; three grandchildren, Corinna Lynn Towler, James Michael Towler, and Vernon Charles (Chuck) Towler and wife, Amy; brother-in-law, Louis Lipscomb; sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Barbour, Arnita Barbour, Eunice Murphy, Cora Brumfield, and Frances Towler; favorite nieces, Charlotte Scruggs and Diane Barbour; and 7 great-grandchildren Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at New Bethel Church of the Brethren by Rev. Leo Johnson and Rev. Curtis English. Burial will follow in Gretna Burial Park. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2012 at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence, 3421 Yorkshire Drive, Sandy Level. The family suggests memorial be made to the Cool Branch Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 54, Penhook, VA 24137 or to the New Bethel Church of the Brethren, 3580 Burton Lake Road, Chatham, VA 24531. I meet Aylene when I went to work at the Kitting Mill. She worked at the machine behind me. She was always kind and sweet. I always enjoyed see her and talking to her. My prayer are with you and the family. May God Bless and comfort you in the days and weeks ahead.
