Matthew Beatty Obituary

Matthew Beatty, cherished son of Drs. Michael and Ann Beatty, and beloved brother of Cynthia Beatty Seymour and Michael Beatty, Jr., is at peace.
He will also be sadly missed by his brothers-in-law, Tim LeGallo and Gordon Seymour, and his adoring niece and nephew, Annie and Sam Seymour.
Matthew was a 1991 graduate of Edwardsville High School. His educational background also included St. Louis University, Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Since 2000, Matthew worked as a Psychometrist, and more recently as a Sales Associate and Executive Education Representative at Psychological Associates in St. Louis.
A lifelong music lover, Matthew had a special passion for indie rock. He was a talented musician who excelled at playing the drums and guitar. He was particularly proud of the bands with whom he played and recorded, including the "Republic of Sound," the "Felony Possessions," and "Rock Hill Academy."
His other areas of interest included his love for hockey, in particular the St. Louis Blues. Everyone who knew him found him to be the "fact wizard of Blues hockey." He was a skilled fly fisherman and outdoorsman, and he loved nothing better than spending the day on the trout stream with his father.
A lifelong animal lover, he adopted his rescue cat, Dennis, and loved his big lab puppy, Carl. He had expert knowledge of herpetology and could provide a tour at the St. Louis Zoo with ease. He was a voracious reader who was especially attuned to current events and international affairs. He was especially sensitive to the Mideast crisis and had enormous respect for our armed forces. He was a member of Esic University Baptist Church in Edwardsville.
Matthew was a kind, gentle and loving young man who was devoted to his family and many friends. He had a great sense of humor and always made everyone around him smile.
Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Wednesday, July 21, at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Dr., in Glen Carbon.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 22, at Esic University Baptist Church, 1000 University Dr., in Edwardsville.
Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
Memorials may be made in care of Sunset Hill Funeral Home to Madison County Humane Society or Coordinated Youth and Family Services (a chapter of the United Way).
Sunset Hill Funeral Home in Edwardsville is in charge of arrangements.

My deepest condolence to the Beatty Family. Matt will be missed by a great many people. He was a very positive light in a rather dreary world. We may not have been close but I can't recall not one negative aspect of our acquaintance. He was a very respectful and decent human being and I was deeply shocked and saddened by the news of his untimely passing. I can only imagine what this must be like for you and those closest to him. He was definitely not a bystander. He was an active participant in life. Be well.

Dear Ann & Dr. Mike,
I only shared a small moment in your son's life, but the memories were wonderful and have and will last a lifetime. I was lucky enough to be able to take the trip to Spain w/him and many others. I got to hang out with him quite a lot there, and memories of him and Billy W. flamenco dancing in Madrid and oranges will be in my mind forever. I also had a few Spanish classes and others as well with him! He was a great guy, knew how to make people laugh and feel good about themselves! I always enjoyed talking to him. My heart goes out to you and your family and I send you my deepest sympathies and strength in this moment. He was loved by so many!

To the Beatty Family,

Let last night be a tribute to the legacy that Matt has left. Hours of waiting in line. I would not have expected anything less.

To know Matt was to love Matt. He had a laugh that was contagious, a smile that was beautiful and a witty personality that drew anyone that met him in. He was dearly loved by many and will be truly missed.

Please find comfort in knowing that he is at peace. He is up there watching hockey, playing foosball and listening to music at this very moment. He has family and friends that are excited to see him and many many more that cannot wait to see him again.

Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers for years to come.

Matthew Beatty, you truly were a rare gem! I don't think there ever was one that crossed your path that you wouldn't befriend or wasn’t drawn to your charismatic personality & captivating smile.

From gradeschool days of all the little girls having a crush on you to the boys envying your mad drumming & skateboarding skills to highschool & your continued passion for music & hockey, so many were eager to get to know you & those of us fortunate to have had that opportunity know why.

Your legacy will continue on through the abundant lives of friends and family that you have touched & the seeds that were planted in so many hearts long ago.

An angel has been called home & though God has bigger plans than we will ever know, I firmly believe he will continue his work & magic through you in the heavens as he did here on earth.

I am blessed & honored to know you & have had you as a friend. May you rest in peace my dear friend until we all meet again. May God Bless, blanket & keep the Beatty family at this difficult time.
