Mere words alone cannot express what you meant to me, Debra. Although we were only acquainted for a short time, the influence that you had on me was profound. I sorely regret the time that I wasted not getting to know you better. One of the most notable things about you that I realized is that your influence was so strong. I have talked to people in 3 states and 2 different countries who all called you mentor and friend. You have done an invaluable service to the Native American and historical worlds by being a strong voice for those whom could not speak.

I just learned of Debra's passing and wanted to express belated condolences to her family and friends. I knew her through her work with Norton Mounds. She was a dedicated protector of the site and proud of her heritage.

I didn't have a chance to offer my condolences to the family at the funeral today so I thought that I would take a moment to do so now. Debbie loved her family dearly and was so proud of her grandson. I know that she would have wanted more time with him, but know that while she by be gone her love remains and she will forever be in your hearts. My God bless you and be close to you and give you strength during this difficult time.

Thank You for understanding the ways, teaching the ways, preserving knowledge for your children & their children & so many. While I walk the path you sent me on Debra, know that our Kwe have become teachers and leaders because you insisted it be so. A life changer has walked on and Anishinabe people are in pain, but not at a loss...because of the empowerment Debra gave her community.

We send our heart felt sympathy to Glen, and to Debbie's family. We enjoyed her company at the Park at Lake Michigan for many years. It is important for her Grandson to know that she was so proud to be his Grandmother, and loved him so much. He was the most loved child ever!
Debbie had a kind and generous heart, and her spirited conversations will be missed.

To all of Debbie's family,
I watched her grow up while at Godwin. She was one of my sister's (Debbie Traetz)best friends. She sang at our sister Pammy's funeral. She loved what she did on behave of the Indians. She will be missed by all of her friends.
