Kristin Hoke Obituary

Kristin Hoke, the WPBF-TV 25 anchorwoman whose valiant 5 1/2-year battle with breast cancer inspired viewers and fellow cancer warriors, died early this morning at her Jupiter home. She was 42.

Hoke, whose personal stories earned her four regional Emmy awards, waged a public fight against her disease, even as it aggressively metastasized.

But along with her private pain, Hoke also shared with viewers her greatest joy: the birth of her "miracle baby," Isabella "Bella" Margaret Cecere, now 3 years old.

She focused on the people she loved, most dearly her daughter and her husband, Eric Cecere, a videographer she met on the morning shift at WPBF-TV 25, where Hoke came to work in 2000.

I did not know you, but wow, you lived everyday to the fullest. Your positive choices were decisions you made to enjoy Bella and your family until the end came. I feel empowered by your life to be the best that I can be in life. Your heart was a blessing to all who new you. May God give you a heavenly pillow to rest on, watch and know that your lovely life matters. I will remember your strength and joy that you gave to everyone. Rest peacefully in Gods loving arms. It's with heavy heart that I write this. I am not sure how I happened to miss when this beautiful and inspiring angel died. I was just reading a recent article on another anchor on Her life magazine and discovered that she passed away. I was always inspired about her brave spirit and courageous heart on the air. Her story always touched my heart. She will forever be missed as one of the most beautiful anchor of a kind. May God bless her family

Sweet Isabella Margaret, my name is Margaret Rouse, though friends and family call me Meg or Megalina for short. I had the pleasure of twirling you around and around at the SAKS event last week. My sister invited me to come from out of town to the Breast Cancer event so I could meet her closest friends. I didn't know your mom or that you were her daughter until after our fun evening dancing , when my sister said. "I think that was Kristen Hoke's daughter. ' I then heard all about your moms courageous battle and her love for you. I loved dancing with you, and I know if your mom were there, she would have been dancing with you. I think maybe she couldn't , and she sent me. Keep twirling beautiful Bella.

October 25, 2013

I still think about her very often. She was always my favorite news person. I pray her lovely daughter is well and God bless Bella and Kristin's Eric.

Dear Eric, I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and watched your wife often for inspiration and support. I am also a mother and about the same age. Even though I never met her, I somehow feel I know her a little bit. I was gone most of the summer and just found out today from Dr. McKeen who is also my oncologist. I am so saddened by your loss. Please know she helped me and many others by sharing her story and her life. She is an amazing woman. You have a beautiful daughter who will be so proud of her mother someday. My thoughts are with you.

Dear Eric(and Bella),Perhaps you remember me?I am the nurse who took care of Kristin in the Pacu at Brigham and Womens Hospital after her omaya reservoir surgery.I thought of her often and asked her surgeon periodically about her progress.I remember,Eric, your assignments that trip were to get Bella a red flashlight and Kristen a new Red Sox hat,I think it was to be green.I met her for a brief time, actually because of the bed situation we were stuck with each other for the better part of that day.I couldnt help but be touched by her story which she encouraged me to read on line but also by her courageous spirit. All of us,including her oncologists from the Farber, were. But yet ,based on her experience, she was a realist, having watched her mother, endure during her own personal battle against this horrible disease.Eric,I am so sorry I just found out from a friend visiting from Boca Raton that Kristin had passed away but I wanted you and Bella to know that despite everything she told me it was still worth it.Please accept my most sincere condolences. How lucky we were to have our lives intersect with that of this very special lady.Sincerely,Barbara Unger Gariepy,RN,PACU,Brigham and Womens Hospital,Boston,MA

I had the opportunity to meet Kristin and Eric and later Bella at an annual "Breakfast With Santa" in Lantana. It was obvious how much family meant to hear and I always enjoyed hearing stories from her father-in-law about her triumphs and shared the frustration when hearing of her struggles. After having read all 69 pages of entries, it is clear that she was so loved by the community as well as friends and family and I hope that as Bella gets older, these pages will bring comfort if she feels lonely and help her to get to know a side of her mom that others knew and loved.

Ron, I am so sorry for the loss of your daughter-in-law. Know that I am thinking of you and your family. (((Hugs))) to you all.

Kristin was an inspiration to all. I was so amazed at how everytime you watched her on the news she had the most beautiful smile and upbeat attitude. Kristin's family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers during this trying time. Kristin was always a happy, outgoing person and a determined go-getter. She had the locker next to mine in high school, and her positive attitude always rubbed off when we'd chat. Rest in Peace, Kristin.

I had the opportunity of meeting Kristin as she did a funny story in our school cafeteria. The story was that she had to do my job for the day (Cafeteria manager) we spent the day together and talked and talked. Krisitn was so down to earth and had a glow about her. I consider myself very lucky to have meet her, she was truely and Angel on earth.
My heart is broken for you, Bella and Eric, she did not have Bella when I meet her but had dreams of having a baby one day. I am so happy that her dream did come true with Bella. Eric she loved you so much, her eyes lite up when she spoke of you, brighter then they normally were!
Life is not fare and times like this can make for bitterness but Kristin would never want that.
Like Krisitn said "If you are not getting up each and everyday and living your life like today is the last day of your life then you better GET BUSY" we must live by this rule or she did all of this for nothing!!!
May God bless you all and each time you feel like you can't go on in this cruel world remember the fight Krisitn had and she will somehow give you strength!!! Blessings to you all!

I had the great pleasure of meeting Kristin one day when she was interviewing my friend Beth Williams, who was participating in her first ArtiGras. I was struck by how beautiful she was in person and then after speaking to her how amazingly strong she was. We talked briefly about her fight against her cancer and I shared a story about my friend Pattie who had been battling breast cancer for 18 years at the time. She loved hearing about Pattie. She and Pattie shared a determination to raise their children in spite of the odds against them. May her strength, her smile and her love help you her family survive such a tragic loss.

On a daily basis as others I pass the library in Jensen Beach that bares her name. It has now taken on a new meaning. That name embodies the memory of a heroine. She emerged victorious in her battle so that she could leave behind a piece of herself in her daughter Bella. As she would say her "injection of sunshine on a dark day".
Kristin is a beacon for all that she knew and touched.

The deepest of sympathies to Kristin's family and close friends.

May this woman's love and the strength of her soul always be with the daughter she loved so fiercely. As a mother, I know she endured the ultimate nightmare--leaving her baby. May her family and friends take great pains to ensure that her daughter will always know her mother's love and will know the strength of her character as well.

Cancer is the thief of so much joy and memories. But it can never steal love.

Kristin and I were diagnosed with breast cancer around the same time. Cancer is such a wakeup call, especially when someone so vibrant, so alive as Kristin, someone who is the same age as yourself, given the same diagnosis, given the same prognosis, dies. Our lives were parallel. Why did I survive and she didn't? Why do my kids have their mother and her Bella doesn't? WHY? I am blessed. Through her fight I am given yet another chance to see my life and the reasons to never take it for granted again. Rest in God's loving arms, Kristin. I pray this in Jesus' name.

Having lost my father on April 6th of this year, I know the pain of cancer. But wow, what an incredible story. Remember, today is a blessing! Use it wisely! You will be missed Kristin, but I'm confident your journey has just begun!

The journalism community has lost a talented reporter at the height of her career and, most importantly, a little girl has lost her mother. I'm sure that Bella will live her life guided by her mother's words and her mother's goodness will live on through her. Rest in Peace Kristin and condolences to your friends and family.

A message of love and sympathy to Kristen's husband, daughter Bella, and extended family:

I never had the pleasure of meeting Kristen; but as a long-time and faithful viewer of CH 25, felt as though I'd known her for years! That was the essence of her spirit and what has endeared her to some many others like myself.

My beloved "Granny" succumbed to breast cancer 26 years ago while I was a young adult and woefully unprepared; Kristen displayed the same magnitude of grace, strength and faith during the term of her illness as my grandmother had.

I pray that you, too, will be strengthened by her example and find lasting comfort in knowing how deeply she touched the lives and hearts of countless others whether known or not.

May God bless & keep you now and forever is my prayer.

My deepest condolences to her family both personal and professional. She was truely an inspiration for those struggling with the disease. Having just lost my father recently to cancer I can sympathize. I had truely hope for a better outcome. God Bless her and her family.

I never met Kristen but followed her on Channel 25. I remember very clearly when the announcement was made that she was getting married and the joy she displayed. I am deeply sadened by her passing, especially since I was praying that she would get the better of the cancer. She brought so much joy to her family,to her friends and to those who of us only knew her through the television. To her devoted husband, beautiful daughter Bella, and beloved family, thank you for sharing Kristin with the rest of us. My thoughts and prayers are with you, and may you find peace and strength in this very difficult time.

I'm heartbroken for all of you. What a wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend she must have been to all of you. May her light continue to shine over all of you. You are truly blessed to have such a wonderful human being in your life.
