Although I was never privileged to have know Sgt. Phillip Bocks I did just finish reading the story about the battle that took his life. I was deeply saddened. And, ultimately, moved to express to his family how much my family appreciates his selfless service on behalf of our country. The least we can do is keep you in our thoughts and prayers as you continue to deal with the painful loss of a true hero.

Hello,

First of all I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the Bocks family for their loss. I am writing to let you know that my family found a memorial bracelet for Phillip washed up on the beach In North Topsail, North Carolina. This is the best way we could find to contact whoever the bracelet may belong to. If you or anyone you know would like the bracelet returned, we would be more than happy to send it to its rightful owner.

Please reply to this post if you would like to arrange the bracelets return. Thank you.

Phil I miss you more than ever. You were always the one to give me the good advice I needed in the manner that I needed to hear it. We might have just been kids who grew up around the corner from each other, but you were my best friend and I've never had a connection like that since and I probably never will again. I visit your mom and keep your stories fresh in the minds of the people you knew. I just recently met my friend AJ who's brother is over there right now on his 3rd tour as well. He will be back in a few weeks for a well deserved leave. Anyways I'm rambling because I miss you and it's Memorial Day so here is my memorial to you, bro!

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Bocks Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

you are remembered...last Sat my wife and I went to visit Mom - Peggy in Troy. She served us a meal worth the visit in and of itself. However, somehow God had brougt us to Peggy's home for HIS purpose - I believe. Small talk and sharing of kind words and short stories were also on the menu for us that wonderful evening in the backyard. We had hoped for some miracle to ease a Marine Mom's pain that night as we offered our gift of a Bible. A small token of our thanks and sincere prayers of healing for all thse that this Marine had touched the hearts of during his journey. My Marine Wife and I cried for most of the ride home that night. Not tears of sadness, but tears of joy that we were put in a place to be used by GOD to bring light into our world for just a few moments if at all. We pray for all of our men and women t oreturn home safe and to stay out of harms way in all their travels...God Bless and goodnight Phillip Bocks and Chesty Puller...wherever you are? AMEN

Hey Marine, I was thinking about that time you and I were bickering over the radio in PI. Haha, we were so mad at each other during those days! But we always made up for it with a few laughs like stamping Marinos head while he slept with the red "Secret" stamp for classified doc's. I still have those pictures, and man are we cheesing. He would wake up and have no clue. It's been 6 years since we parted on 1/3's Battalion area, and 3 years since you courageous passing. Still numb, but still proud. Phil,
I will never forget arriving at 1st BN 3rd Marines as a young Corporal. You were an experienced senior Corporal and a model leader. On day one you helped get me checked in and showed me around the base. You brought me to your home and fed me from your own fridge despite knowing me less than six hours. I've known many marines but few of your caliber. I'm proud to have known and served with you.

Ron Forristal

May 6, 2009

Phil,
Time has not made your loss any easier to bear. It has been nearly two years since we left for Hawaii to train for the mission with 1-9. I couldn't think of a Marine that I wanted at my side more at that time, you were strong, passionate and driven. You kept everyday down to the minute an adventure, nobody could predict what would come out of your mouth or what you would do next. My friend I am better for have knowing you, stronger for have served with you, and proud to say that you were a friend.
If the measure of a man is the void that he has left when he is gone, then my friend you were a hell of a man.
Your void could not be filled in an eternity.

November 13, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

i am currently deployed in the middle east and just received the news about phil. i just can't beleive it. i remember running around the streets of the detroit area all night and getting into trouble with phil. for those who know it was always me, jimmy, vinny, steve, bannerton, and davidson running around troy and getting into adventures. we were all like marines, always faithful. i remember when phil joined the marines. i didn't fully understand at the time but i realized he had made a choice to step out of our childhood and become an adult. he inspired me to do the same and i joined the navy. the last time i saw phil was christmas of 2003. Some of our old friends gathered together at a bar in pontiac. i had not seen phil in almost 2 years and he was still the phil i remembered. he always had the kind of personality that attracted everyone. you just wanted be around him. this is my 4th deployment to the middle east and i am attached to VQ1, a reconassaince squadron from nas whidbey island. every time i'm out here i think about phil. for security reasons i cannot go into location and missions but i can share 1 story. there had been a mission that was flown on my first deployment were we had intercepted intel about a marine batallion that was traveling through our area of responsibility. this intel was recovered from a foreign signal. it had turned out that the batallion was approaching an ambush and we were able to relay the information to them and they were safely diverted. i thought about phil when this had happened. it could have been phil and i always find satisfaction at my job in knowing that. i miss you phil. everytime we fly a mission i think about him and the other marines out here. he changed my life and help me to break out of my childhood. he made me a better man. thank you phil, your country is proud to call you a marine, i am proud to call you my friend.i love you man.

I worked with Sgt Bocks at MWTC, Bridgeport, CA. I am actually the one who wrote his orders sending over to Afghanistan.
Everytime I think of him I have to laugh...I could always count on Sgt Bocks to come into the S-1, smelling like donkeys and with crazy long hair. He was always smiling and joking around. It is bizarre to know that he is not going to be coming back from this mission. He will be greatly missed. My sympathies go to his family and friends.

Words can not express the sorrow in our hearts today as we just found out about Phillip's death. It has hurt us so deeply.

My parents, Betty & Frank Powers, began keeping Phil when he was 6 months old. He was their 'first grandchild'. I never thought they would live to bury him. He was the joy in their life and to anyone who met him. He was the ring bearer in my wedding, like my baby brother.

I can not imagine the pain of losing a child and my heart goes out to Peggy & Kent.

All my love,
