15 years. Seemingly in the blink of an eye. I still Think about you all the time, buddy. Especially when I’m at work flying over the city. You would’ve loved it. The beach runs are the best. We could’ve buzzed El Porto and the High school together. You’re there in my heart, Chris.

Thinking of you every day buddy! I was just remembering how good you were at talking and the natural charisma you possessed. Your eclectic musical tastes, your love for Top Gun and Die Hard. And all of the cars you drove. The Mercedes, the blue Z and the MG that required an hour of work for an hour of drive time. Good times!

The other day I saw a pair of Apaches fly over my school. This was a strange and rare occurrence in my neck of the woods. I felt extreme pride that I got know you and remembered all the fun times we had ESHS. I loved the stories of your "adventures" at Cal Poly SLO, and your old stereo system kept my college dorms pumping with all of that great music from back in the day! My son has a great personality like you, and I hold you up as an example of how he should live his life. You excelled in all that you undertook and yet you were humble and nice to everyone. Rare commodities that I hope to ingrain in him. Party on bro! and save me a seat in the Z

My son, whose middle name was chosen to honor not only your memory but also the qualities, character and personality you demonstrated to me in my early years, loves to ask me about you. He is constantl honored and proud to hear what his name represents and asks about it often. I feel that part of your spirit resides in him as he is honest, outgoingly friendly, athletic and charismatic. Thanks to your continued influence long after the last time I saw you, I am raising a quality human being. Your legacy resonates in my life constantly through the upbringing of my son and as he grows older his understanding will deepen, forging a strong, moral, upright man. Your life has become the light that my son follows and lives up to daily. You will most certainly never be forgotten or just a memory. I met Rex while I was stationed in Korea from another friend who was at the time in the same unit with Rex. Rex was this super fun, smart and friendly guy with this killer smile. The conversation with him was always interesting and invigorating. He's always able to put things in a different perspective. Thank you so much for being part of my life. You made my time in Korea that much more fun. The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I too ran with Chris in at El Segundo High School. I remember him as one of the funnier and more cheerful members of the team. His enthusiasm was contagious. I am grateful to him for his dedication to the team, to the members of the Cross Country squad, and to our country. The picture that is displayed brings back all of those memories. Thank you, Chris, and to his family. My memories of him will always be good ones.

Just yesterday I saw a photo of the Memorial Park in ES where the plaque marking Chris' sacrifice is posted. It has been on my mind ever since I saw it.
I ran with Chris in High School and like so many of us on the team, I was grateful for anybody who was willing to join the team and run. Turned out that Chris was a pretty gifted runner, but even more, he was gifted in cheering us up with that smile.
I know it has been mentioned many times (as I have read through some of the other posts) but the comfort he brought to many of us really was no small thing.
I owe his parents a debt of gratitude because people like Chris are often a product of a fine family. Chris had a high standard and when we were around him we gladly stepped up to it. He was always about doing good and having a positive influence. He always cheered for all the runners (no matter what team they were on).
I am thankful that I had the honor of knowing him and I am honored that he was willing to sacrifice for the freedom of ALL people. He is not forgotten.

You were a good friend and an awesome runner in high school. I remember tagging along, or rather driving you, to the Civil Air Patrol meeting in El Segundo. Little did I realize what you had in mind. You will sorely be missed. My heart sank the day I heard of your passing. I thank you for your sacrifice in keeping the freedoms I hold dear, still my freedoms. You, as well as all those who have been part of the military, will always be my heroes.

I remember those days in cross country when Coach Crystal would have us doing hill repeats behind the high school. We were so exhausted towards the end of those workouts that we would almost have to crawl up those hills. But the smile was never far from Chris' face. He was always so upbeat and positive. We shared so many laughs together. I'll never forget him.
Out of coincidence I was driving down Main Street in El Segundo one rainy day, and saw the markee in front of the school reading something about Rex Kenyon, and a ceremony at a nearby park. I drove over there, and realized that I had missed the dedication in his honor.
I had no idea that he had been killed, and it came as a complete blow to me to find out. As I stood there alone, with a pit in my stomach, I remembered the times we shared. Like the time we all went out to Edwards AFB and watched the Space Shuttle land. What a great time we had! On the way home, Chirs cranked up some Def Lepard and we all sang along to "Love Bites".
I couldn't hold back the tears, and I sat on the bench they have there at the park and thought about Chris and what a genuienly kind, caring and fun person he was.
We lost touch after high school, but he was never far from my thoughts. I cherish the memories of good friends like him from high school.
Chris is a hero to me. He answered his calling. He loved to do what he did, and he served with pride.
My heart goes out to the Kenyon family. Your loss is more than I can ever imagine, and I'm so very sorry.
But please know that you are not alone. Myself, and many others like me loved Chris so much. He touched my life in a special way. I mourn his loss with you. I miss him, and I think of him and you often.
God's speed Chris, I'll never forget you.

I was stationed with Rex in Germany and flew with him as a crew when he was a yound WO1. Rex was unique and a quality officer.
I heard of his death in June of 2006 and it effected me very much. There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
