Mitchell Huggins Obituary

Mitchell Huggins HICKORY Mitchell Scott Huggins, 46, of Hickory, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 at his home in Mountain View. Born Sept. 30, 1965 in Chester, S.C., he was the son of Elmer and Tommie Edwards Huggins of Hickory. A resident of Hickory since his early years, he grew up attending First Baptist Church and was a member early in his teens. He attended Oakwood, Grandview and Hickory High School, where he participated in wrestling, cross-country and baseball. Graduating in 1984, he began his service in the U.S. Navy, serving 4 years. He attended Broadcast School in Knoxville, Tenn. with an interest in Sports Broadcasting and followed with some events, his favorite being the Western Regionals. Developing an interest early on, he became an avid Clemson Tiger sports fan and found great pleasure following the Orange through the years. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Mark Huggins, Mark's two sons, Perrin and Grayson, all of Hickory; his special friend in his heart, Lisa Holtzclaw Buchanan of Mountain View; long-time best friend, Kevin Hollar of Asheville; in South Carolina, his uncles, Hal and Ann Edwards, Kay and Rose Huggins, Hugh Huggins, Ned and Mary Dean Huggins; his cousins, Hal and Ashley Edwards, Kyle Edwards, Amber, Heather and Kincaid Huggins, Cynthia and Terry Poston, Laura Anderson, Diane and Randy Prosser. A service of remembrance will be held in the chapel at Bass-Smith Funeral Home at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 with Deacon Gary Woods and the Rev. Pat Pearce officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. As requested by Mitchell, his ashes will be scattered at a later scheduled time on Lake Hartwell near the Tiger's Roar. Mitchell had a big heart and will be missed by his family and friends. Memorials may be made to the Flynn Home, 708 Main Ave., SE, Hickory, NC 28602. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.bass-smith funeralhome.com. Bass-Smith Funeral Home is serving the family of Mitchell Scott Huggins.

It has been a long time since ive seen Mitch I got to know him and could call him a true friend. I had asked him to be in my wedding a few years back and he was so nervous like almost he was getting married. But i remember what he told me that he was being nervous for me so I wouldnt pass out. Mitch thank you for being the person you was. And to the Huggins family my thoughts are with you but be happy for him he is in a happier place than you imagine...
