George Hogan Obituary

Hogan
George A. Hogan, surrounded by his wife Linda, daughter Talina Fields and son Charles Hogan, passed gently into the arms of our Lord in his Missouri City home in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 8, 2011. George was born in Rockmart, Georgia on November 26, 1940 to Ruth and C.V. Hogan. The family moved to Longview, Texas when George was in Junior in high school. Being a "Big" boy he was welcomed with open arms and immediately recruited for the Longview Lobos. George loved the game of football and received eight scholarships to play college ball. He chose Texas A & M where he played for three years and was recruited by the Oakland Raiders in 1963 where he played for 2 years. After an injury to his knee, he came back to the Dallas area to work and was drafted into the US Army where he served in Vietnam. After receiving The Bronze Star Medal he was honorably discharged and he returned to the Dallas area to work. During this time he met and married Linda and continued to attend UT Arlington until receiving his BBA in 1971. The family moved to Houston in 1972 so that he could join the family business, Hogan Fluid Power. After his brother Jim Hogan and sister Dottye Sartain preceded him in death, Hogan Fluid Power was sold and he started Control Center Systems. He continued to work until he could no longer take care of his customers. He thrived at solving problems and designing systems.
Heritage Baptist Church became a huge part of his life and he loved the Lord. One of his greatest satisfactions was teaching and working with the youth in AWANA.
He leaves his wife, Linda, daughter Talina Fields, son-in-law John and son Charles Hogan. Three grandchildren, Jeff Fields, Austin Fields and Sydney Hogan and his mother Ruth Symms. His has been proceeded in death by his father C.V. Hogan, brothers, Jim Hogan, Bobby Hogan and sister Dottye Sartain.
His principal legacies will be the love he showed and taught his family, friends and his church. We are all deeply saddened by his departure but know that he is with his Lord.
Memorial Service will be held at Heritage Baptist Church, 2223 FM 1092/Murphy Rd, Missouri City on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 11:00am. The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations in George's memory be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center, New Century Hospice or Heritage Baptist Church.

Dearest Linda,
You are so loved by Heritage Baptist Church family. I will treasure the times I would look over to you and Bro. George in the sanctuary (when I attended HBC) and you both always had such a beautiful smile as you worshiped our Lord. You made a beautiful "marriage" picture. I will miss Bro. George... especially his visits to the church office during the week when he would bring "The Hogan church tithe"... he was such a precious man. He was very proud of you and always spoke highly of "his Linda". You and Bro. George are in some of my wedding photos... I will treasure and cherish those photos. May the Lord comfort you, Talina, Charlie, Ruth and the rest of the family during the difficult days ahead of you. I love you, Linda.

My prayers, thoughts and love,
Leticia Culver

Dearest Linda,
Our thoughts and sentiments go out to you and your family. What a pleasure to have known George. We need more people like him in this old world. His appearance would enlighten a room with his outgoing nature and cute little jokes. He will surely be missed by many.

I served proudly with George in K Troop, 11th ACR, in Viet Nam. I am deeply sorry he has left us. He never let us down. In those days he was young with a full life ahead, yet he pledged his life for his country. After Viet Nam he had another life to build which he did. To those left behind, celebrate his life and keep him in your hearts.

GEORGE AND I HAD A ROUGH TIME TOGETHER IN THE ARMY, "K TRP. 11th CAV. VIETNAM"; BUT WE ENJOYED WHAT TIME WE HAD TOGETHER; ABOUT A YEAR AGO, GEORGE RETURNED MY SMALL BIBLE, I HAD LOANED HIM IN NAM; I HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT IT,
BUT GEORGE'S MOTHER HAD PUT IT UP AND HE FOUND IT AND
SENT IT TO ME; I WILL MISS MY FRIEND; MAY GOD BLESS HIS FAMILY;
