Although years apart - we served our country together... I gave some... You gave all. You are appreciated and your service will always remain the most valued treasure of our freedoms. There is a special place for you with our Lord and although everyone misses you on this Earth, you will be together again. Bless your Mom, Dad and family...

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Jourdan L. Grez US Marine Lance Corporal. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Each year on the Tuesday following Memorial Day, the James River High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) cadets render honors to our Rapids and fallen Marines, Lance Corporal Karl Linn (Class of 2002) and Lance Corporal Jourdan Grez (Class of 1999) with an assembly and wreath laying ceremony. In 2012, family and fellow Marines that served with Karl and Jourdan participated in our assembly and ceremony. Karl's mother and father who live locally have joined us each of the last four years, however we have lost contact with any of Jourdan's family, friends, relatives or fellow Marines. If anyone who visits this site can join us in 2017 to help us keep Jourdan's memory alive, please contact me at [email protected] or O:(804) 378-2452.

I know your heart still has an empty place for him and my heart still aches for his family. Please know that he will not be forgotten by our family. Mrs. Grez,
Our son was with your son in Iraq. They had formed a relationship by talking along side the Euphrates River. Grez, as our son called him, talked much about his family. Since our sons were at war together, a lady here in Cortland, NY and I have met weekly to lift our troops in prayer. We have names for some but lift them all. May his memory live forever and you can be proud of him and the country he served. My heart aches for you and your family.

Jourdan, today is Easter. We celebrate the life that Jesus promised us. You are with Him, I know, because you showed Nan and I a very powerful sign at church today. We were running a little late and had to stand in the vestibule with many others. As we stood there, a young man of about 15, and a boy of about 10 caught our attention. We turned to each other and said simultaneously...it's Jourdan! I approached the father of the two and told him how much his family touched me and made me smile (he had another son, about 13 years old who was a mixture of A3 and Aric). I gave them a mass card from your funeral, a photo and three memory bands, along with the address for your website. I wanted them to see how special they were...each one looked so very much like you at those ages!!! They were such a handsome family! I hope they see this guest book and leave a message for you. I continue to be amazed at how you and the Lord show us that death is only a physical experience...that not only is there life beyond this one, but it is joyous and profound. Oh, another thing...when Nan was getting ready for church she couldn't decide what to wear; she settled on a suit that she hasn't worn since your burial at Arlington. When she saw the boys at church, she knew immediately who had prompted her to put it on once again...
We love you and miss you, Jourdan. Thank you for showing us this sign that you are happy and, more importantly, you are here with us whenever we need you.
Hugs and kisses, Mom

Jourdan, the bandage I wear over the wound that was left on my heart by your death comes unglued on this, your birthday. I remember how my heart leapt when you announced your entry into the world with a wail. I remember all the days, thereafter...the laughter, the fun, the challenge, the joy of watching you and your brothers grow into strong young men. These are the memories I hold dear. Today you would be 29 years old. I thank God that He gave me 24 years to share with you. Happy Birthday, Jourdi. I love you and miss you.

I was perusing YouTube looking for accounts on a fellow Marine, LCpl Chance Phelps and came across Jourdan's video(s). I never knew Jourdan or Chance, but I had heard about the very moving account on LCpl Phelps aired recently on HBO based on the account written by the LtCol that accompanied his remains from his arrival at Dover AFB to the small town in Wyoming where Chance was laid to rest. I'm sure that Jourdan was given the same solemn and tender respect, as well he should have.
I personally served in the Air National Guard as a Registered Nurse at Travis AFB during the First Gulf War. I have since retired from the military, but I still maintain close ties. May Jourdan rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon him and all the men and women in uniform who have died serving their country. My condolences to Jourdan's family.

You were remembered on Memorial Day. Here is a short poem I wrote:
In the pale, dark night
The winds of fire
Swept the light
From his tired eyes.
He was a hero to some.
Unknown to many
He is the boy
Next door.
He offered his life.
Be not ungrateful.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Jourdan, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Happy Birthday Buddy,
Another Birthday has passed without you here physically but certainly not in thought or spirit. I miss you, we all miss you and love you and what we wouldn't give for just another few minutes with you.
John Kennedy said, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country". You are my hero and should be all of ours hero because you exemplified what your family, your son, your friends and country meant to you.
Some day your son will understand what he meant to you and I hope I'm around to share that moment of realization with him. Semper Fi in the Marine Corp means "Forever Faithful", That you are!

Mrs. Grez,
Thank-you for the wristband you gave me bearing your son's name outside of Ft. Monmouth. I was very touched and feel extremely honored to be wearing it. Your son is a true hero. Please accept my respect and my condolences for your family’s loss. I will always have your family in my heart and prayers for God to keep and to bless you all with peace and wellbeing.
