Schleis, Emil W.
Emil W. "Red" Schleis, Jr. age 81, of 714 So. Main St., Mishicot, entered into eternal life Saturday, January 5, 2013 at his residence. Emil was born, June 8, 1931 in Kewaunee, to the late Emil Sr. and Carrie Soucoup Schleis and has been a lifelong area resident. He attended Kewaunee schools, and served his country in the National Guard for 8 years. Emil married the former Grace Jindra, June 23, 1951 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mishicot. He was employed by Hamilton Industries for 44 years, retiring as shipping department supervisor, and was chosen one year as the "Employee of the Year". After his retirement he did 7 years of seasonal work at the Natural Beauty Nursery. He served on the Mishicot Public School Board for 36 years, and for 30 years served on the CESA 7 Board, and was a Head Start Board Representative for 4 years. He was an active member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mishicot, where he served as past council member, trustee, an was on various church committees. He also served on the Mishicot Housing Authority Board. Emil enjoyed camping, the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers, and the WI Badgers.
Survivors include his wife: Grace, two sons: Mark Schleis, of Summerville, S. C., Reverend Paul (Denise) Schleis, of Green Bay, one daughter: Nancy (Gordon) Haak, of Elkhorn, WI, six grandchildren: Jessica Gall, Andrea Gall, Rev. Keith (Dawn) Schleis, John (Amy) Schleis, Greg Schleis, and Adam Schleis, one great-grandchild: Caleb Schleis. Emil is further survived by one twin sister: Janice (Gordon) Pautz, of Two Rivers, and by his brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters and borther-in-law: Alice & Jim Anderle, and Gladys Nejedlo.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mishicot, with the Reverend Robert Johannes, Reverend Paul Schleis, and the Reverend Keith Schleis officiating, with burial to follow in the Mishicot Public Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm on Tuesday at the Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home 344 So. State St., in Mishicot. Visitation will continue after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. A memorial fund has been established for St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, The Manitowoc Lutheran High School, and the Aurora Visiting Nurse Association-Hospice. The Schleis family would like to express a very special thank you to Reverend Robert Johannes, and the Hospice Team for the love, prayers, and special care given to Emil and our family during Emil's illness. Your kindness will always be remembered.

I worked for 7 years with Emil at Hamilton. He was a gentle, kind and warm person who gave freely to all who came in contact with him. May we all be so!

Dear Grace and family,
My heart is saddened to learn of Emil's death. He was a dedicated CESA 7 board member who brought expertise and joy to our board. He gave of himself amd will be missed. I have fond recollections of you and him going to the national convention for educational service agencies when I was CESA 7 administrator. May you find solace in knowing others care.
