Joseph Mackell Obituary

Joseph Henry Mackell

54, peacefully concluded his journey Home on July 10, 2013, at the Bridge Home Health and Hospice facility in Findlay. He was born on December 27, 1958 to John and Rosemary Mackell in Indianapolis, Indiana. A 1977 graduate of Perry Meridian High School, he went on to achieve his BS from Indiana University in 1981 and became a CPA in 1984. He married Candida Andrea (Candee) Warnock on August 29, 1981 in her hometown of Uniondale, New York.

Joe started his career at Texas Oil and Gas in Dallas, Texas, where he and Candee gave birth to their two children Christina and Stephen. The Mackells moved to Findlay, Ohio in 1991, where Joe began his long career with Marathon Petroleum. He served in several departments, most recently as a supervising accountant in Product Supply Accounting. Joe was an extremely loving husband to his wife of 32 years, Candee. He was an enthusiastic and devoted father - creating numerous happy backyard memories with his kids, and later supporting them at all of their sporting and school events.

His other passion was his 20 year career with the IndyCar Series. He worked as a Technical Inspector and Pitt Official at the Indianapolis 500 and other races around the country, as well as tracks in Japan, England, Brazil, and Canada. Joe sincerely cared for his friends and the people in "his group" at Marathon, whose caring and friendship helped him greatly during his illness.

In his spare time, he also enjoyed swimming, a pastime he shared with both of his children growing up. He was a faithful Christian throughout his life and a parishioner of Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish for twenty-three years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Candee; his children, Christina Mackell and fiance JT Imming of Pittsburgh, PA; and his son, Stephen Mackell and wife Taylor Mackell of Dayton, OH. Additionally, he is survived by his parents, John and Rosemary Mackell of Indianapolis; his siblings, Paul and Liz Mackell of Colorado; TJ and Carolyn Mackell of California; Kathy and Greg Taylor of Columbus, OH; and Ann and Al Wellington of Indianapolis.

Also surviving are Candee's siblings, Charles and Ann Warnock of Pennsylvania; Kenneth and Cathy Warnock of New York; Joe and Peg Warnock of Kansas; and Walter Warnock of North Carolina. Additionally, he has several loving nieces and nephews throughout the country. He was preceded in death by Candee's parents, Louis and Mary Warnock.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge of Cincinnati, OH where Joe resided during his treatments; Bridge Home Health and Hospice of Findlay; and Saint Michael the Archangel Parish, Findlay.

Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 12, 2013 at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home , Findlay, where a Rosary Service will take place at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Bright Road.
