Robert Brandstrom Obituary

he Family of Robert Vincent Brandstrom mourns his passing on April 3, 2011, at age 59. He leaves behind his wife of 25 years Cheryl; his son Anthony; daughter Allison; as well as his mother Virginia Brandstrom; sister, Tesha Brandstrom Moles; and brother Michael Brandstrom. Robert was born in Arlington, Virginia. His father was in the air force and during his childhood they lived all over the world finally ending in Redlands, CA. He was known for his fun loving spirit that always went along with his stories. In his spare time he spent most mornings (dawn patrol) on a board floating off of the Pacific Ocean which he referred to as his "devotion reunion". His other favorite past time was to take his wife camping, off roading, and fishing as often as possible. If he wasn't surfing or camping he was usually gardening or fixing something around his home. A paddle out is planned in his memory at the South Jetty at Oceanside Harbor on April 30th at 9:00 a.m. where Orchids will be released in his honor. A celebration of his life will follow later in the day at their home.

My prayers our with the family and friends, I thank god that I had the pleasure to meet Cheryl and at the time the little ones. While in the Marines in the 70's I met Rob through Michael and Randy, I took up surfing and we had spent a bit of time paddling the Pacific. Robert thank you for sharing your time with us.

Surfing won't be the same without you, Robbo. There was only one Kahuna at the Harbor. Thanks for all the fun times... .

Robbo was a great guy and fixture at the Jetty. He always waited for the big ones on the outside. I used to sit out the back with him and listen to his funny travel stories. He was always smiling and loved to surf no matter what the conditions were. Thanks for always being there. We miss you Rob.

Robbo always had a story to share with friends in the lineup at the Jetty, and was ever the optimist about the conditions. He shared his wonderful attitude even with those of us who are not part of the O'side dawn patrol crew, but just periodically surf there. Thank you Robbo for all the good times.

We are so devastated to lose Rob...we had reconnected with him (and met Cheryl) after 30+ years - we were so excited to be in each others lives again. He was delighted to use his four wheeled drive in the snow when they came to visit us in Colorado, and I remember his words when they considered retiring here soon. He said, "But, how I am going to surf here?"
We will miss his easy smile, his kind words and warm eyes that said, "I really care about you, you are my friend." Our lives are much richer because of Rob. Thank you friend.

Rob owned the North side of the South jetty when there was surf. His distinguishable silver-grayed hair was like a buoy for a lot of us. I miss Rob's stories about his chronic body ailments. I could always compare my ailments with his. I'm going to miss him....

Rob was a guy I could always count on to paddle out with me. Some mornings it was just the two of us out real early and I could always count on him to keep an eye on me. He was a positive person and I considered my self luck to have been one of his friends. Aloha and surf in Peace Rob.
