BECKY NICKS Obituary

Becky Ann (Pierce) Nicks, 53, died in the early morning hours of December 3, 2010, in the company of Christ, the Saints, and surrounded by the love of her family. Becky was born July 25, 1957 in Buffalo, MO. Her parents are Frank and Opal (Bailey) Pierce, of Urbana, MO. She leaves a sister, Gina (Wayne) Johnson, of Buffalo, MO, and brother, Danny Pierce, of Tunas, MO. Becky's home is in Shawnee, KS, where she leaves her husband of 32 years, Daniel Nicks, and sons Matthew C. (Ashley) Nicks, of Shawnee; and Sgt. Ryan C. (Stephanie) Nicks, who is stationed at Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, GA. Becky leaves three grandchildren: Jason, Lilly, and Karlie. Becky joins a grandson, Lucas, in Heaven. Funeral Mass will be Dec. 7, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee, KS, at 1 p.m., with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. There will be a visitation Dec. 6, at the church, from 5-7 p.m., where the rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Becky loved the country, Dallas County, MO, where her honest Christian values and many talents were learned, making jelly, baking bread, cross stitching, needle point sewing, and horsemanship. Growing up she was a member of Bailey Chapel Church, Rough Riders, 4H, and F.H.A. Becky graduated Buffalo High School in 1975, and moved to Kansas City, KS, and began working for the Santa Fe railroad on Dec. 5, 1975. She is a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad and Airline Clerks, and was the Local 121 secretary. Becky had many interests but mostly will be remembered for her generosity of spirit and willingness to help. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and active in many church causes: the food kitchen, children's liturgy program, and supplying Jell-O fruit salad for the funeral lunches. Becky was a member of the friends of Old Shawnee Days Society, Shawnee Germany Club, and the Santa Fe Harvey Girls. She volunteered at the Old Shawnee Town school program making butter and washing clothes by hand. Becky loved her job on the railroad and the many people there. She volunteered and helped organize the BNSF kids train and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation walks. We could always count on her support with Knights of Columbus polka dances and activities, Lenexa freedom run, cheering on school sport activities, helping political rallies, making candy bags, filling up water balloons, or simply taking the time to visit. Becky's biggest love was her family her husband, kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Becky was a kind, gentle, generous woman. She is loved by many and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Joseph Food Kitchen, Juvenile Diabetes, or the Friends Old Shawnee Town. Condolences may be left at www.amosfamily.com. (Arr. I will always remember Becky as one of the first ones to give me a warm welcome when I came to Buffalo in my 8th grade year. My locker happened to be next to mine and she was so kind and sweet. Our prayers will be for the family and pray that the Holy spirit will comfort them in the time of their grief and sorrow.God Bless ! Pastor Terry R. Green (Raymore, Mo.)

Just wanted to let all of you know that we were thinking of you. One of the things I will remember about Becky is the first year that Justin and I got up in the wee hours of the morning to help paint shamrocks on the streets of Shawnee. She was very welcoming of the new painters. It was a lot of fun for us. Now her and Lucas can paint shamrocks together. God Bless, You are in our prayers.

Sincerely,
