Abby Gibson Obituary

GIBSON, ABBY (ABIGAIL) ELLIOTT - born November 30, 1999, passed away June 3, 2010 at UT Hospital in Knoxville, TN. She died doing what she loved most...riding horses. Abby was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandparents, Don and Virginia Elliott; great-grandfather, Elder John Foster; and great-grandmother, Barbara Little Gibson. She is survived by her loving mother, Jennifer Gibson; (nana) Donna Foster; (papaw) Greg Gibson; uncle, Todd Gibson; (Mimi) Erma Foster; uncle and aunt, Steve and Debbie Foster; and a host of other relatives; plus special friends, Doug and Carol Ellis and Jan Dore; also, her father and step-mother, Jonathan and Lauren Clay and his family. Thank you to all of the doctors and nurses at UT Medical Center Trauma Unit who valiantly worked to save our precious girl. Abby was a rising fifth grader, at New Hopewell Elementary School. She loved spending time with her family, reading, biking, swimming and being outside. Her dream was to one day be a veterinarian and take care of all the animals she loved. In respect of her dreams, we are requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to support The Abby Gibson Scholarship Fund at UT Veterinarian School that we will be establishing. Donations may be made at Citizen's National Bank of Sevierville, 10225 Chapman Highway, Seymour, TN 37865, in care of Abby Gibson Memorial Scholarship Fund. The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 7:00 pm, at the Berry Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Jeremy LaDuke officiating. Family and friends will meet at Mt. Olive Cemetery on Sunday at 3:00 pm, for a graveside service. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm, Saturday, at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Highway. Condolences may be offered at www.berryfuneralhome.com.

Jennifer,
Abby was such a great student at New Hopewell. Not only was she smart and talented she also had such a sweet spirit with a ready smile. I was disappointed when I didn't get her in kindergarten after having had Todd and you. I kept an eye on her and was proud of her many accomplishments. We know she was well loved and we can't help but miss her. Your family is being held up in thoughts and prayers.

Jennifer, Donna & Aunt Jean,
Abby was beautiful and precious from the first time we got to hold her and play with her at Jimmie's. Her smile and attitude was infectious and we will cherish those moments forever. We love you all and wish we could ease the pain or carry it for you. David, Gail, Mark & Jaimie

Jennifer,
Abby was in the group of kids at New Hopewell that are very special to me, since they were my first class of 1st graders. I did not have Abby, but knew her very well as a beautiful girl with a beautiful smile, cute freckles and wonderful hugs!! She will be greatly missed at New Hopewell, but never forgotten! We will continue to keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers!

June 9, 2010

I went to New Hopewell when I was a kid. I remember the joy of youth and how it doesn't last. Growing up in Knoxville, most of us learned to love our community and the people around it. I never met Abby but I have a 5-year old son and a 19 month old daughter. I just found out about Abby today and regret that I didn't know beforehand. Whatever one believes in, whether it be heaven or some other form of life, being a parent and losing a child is the one thing no one should ever have to experience. No words can bring joy to such a sad time but through love and support from family and friends her legacy will live on forever. She seemed like such a sweet girl though I never met her. Being a photographer and seeing her images and knowing that she lived a fun and inspirational life makes it harder to let go. Never let go of this sweet creature and I hope that someday that hole in her mother's heart will somehow mend. Nothing I say can bring this rough entry in life to an end but I hope the words I offer will give some sense of appreciation for the time we have in this world and the true love that exists between a mother and her child. Stay strong and never forget.

Jennifer and Family,
We are so sorry for your loss. I know that there are no words that can take away the pain that you all are feeling now, but I hope with time it gets easier to deal. Abby was such a sweet little girl with a beautiful smile. Aryanna and Brooke spoke of her often and loved their "bus buddy." I will always remember that smile on her face as she rode her bike up and down the street. She was and always will be a very special girl to so many.

To Jennifer and family,
I'm sorry I was out of town, but I wanted you to know that my heart and prayers go out to you at this time and in the days ahead. No words seem adequate at a time like this. The fact that so many grieve so deeply speaks volumes of Abby's life with her sweet smile, kind personality and outlook on life and doing the things she loved. May your beautiful memories along with support, and prayers for and from family, friends and to God ease your pain. It was always a pleasure to see Abby's smiling face at New Hopewell. She will be missed.

You brush our hearts with just a whisper.

You glance back with infectious laughter
Sprinkling the summer's sizzle.
Eager to see forward,
To keep moving,
You call out from the distant breeze.
See you at the finish line!

Our daughter is a rising 3rd grader at New Hopewell and happened to have spent all of this week at a horse camp in Maryville, so Abby's accident hit us "close to home." Like Abby, Brandy LOVES all animals, especially horses, and plans on working with them as a career, too. We cannot begin to imagine your pain; you are living every parent's worst nightmare. However, we know that Abby has touched many lives and will continue to do so. She was obviously a very special girl. She carries your love with her to Heaven, where she will be safe and happy, until the veil is lifted and you can hold her again. Our thoughts and prayers will be with your family for a long time to come.

Abby is a wonderful child who will be greatly missed. When we moved here two years ago, my daughter had a hard time adjusting until she met Abby with whom she became fast friends. Because they lived so close, they quickly made a habit of riding bikes between each other’s houses, shuttling stuffed animals back and forth and spending days without leaving each other’s side. Last summer was a perfect example of childhood summer fun with Abby and Emmie spending more time together than apart and making wonderful memories along the way. She was not only one of my daughter’s best friends; she was the best kind of friend. This summer will be empty without her captivating smile brightening our home. Our thoughts and prayers are with Abby’s family at this horrible time. The love that her family and friends felt towards her is a legacy that will live on in the hearts of those that knew Abby.
