I found Dr. Oliver to be an excellent teacher while in school and an invaluable resource while in practice.

I was sad to hear about his passing. I spoke to him recently about a case. He was a great teacher and continued to teach us long after our graduation from UTCVM. His "cutting edge" technology will be missed but his legacy of wisdom will live on in those he shared it with so freely.

What a lasting impression this kind doctor made on me. In a world where everyone is rushing through diagnosis, his patience and expertise was exemplary. Thank goodness, I have found a wonderful local vet who has helped me and my little doxie.

I never had the honor of meeting Dr. Oliver. He took the time to answer my email. His wisdom and expertise about cushing helped me and so many on the K9 Cushings forum. We all had such respect and valued his input, articles, and time. We all will miss him greatly. There will be a great void left.

I, too, never had the honor of personally meeting Dr. Oliver. He did testing on my dog and made the diagnosis of Cushing's. He kindly, patiently and promptly answered many questions for me via e-mail. He was obviously a very special person and the world is a better place because of his time here. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, students and co-workers.

Our Heart felt Sympathies go out to Dr Olivers family. What a wonderful gifted, talented and wonderful man. He gave my Boston Terrier Megan 4 extra years of life with Cushings Disease, from the time of diagnosis, She went to the Bridge April 15 2011 at the age of 14. and Im sure Dr Oliver was greeted with her Happy Dance. What wonderful Company he is in..so many Thankful to him. God Bless you Dr Jack, and your family. May many wags of tails and kisses surround you forever.

My condolences to all that will miss Dr. Oliver!!! Unfortunately, I never got to shake his hand but certainly appreciated his insight and wisdom through the years. The Veterinary community was lucky to have him for as long as we did!!! My prayers to his family and friends!

I worked at the Vet School for 12 years and knew Dr. Oliver as a kind,friendly and caring man. He was a wonderful veterinarian,intelligent and hardworking. He will be missed in the veterinary profession. His family and UT Vet School family are in my prayers.

I am saddened to learn of Dr. Oliver's passing. He certainly "fought the good fight." I was in the first veterinary class to which he taught endocrinology at UTCVM. I first knew him as a teacher and later as a colleague. He was always kind and helpful and throughout his lifetime he contributed so much to the field of endocrinology, to the pets he was helping and to his students. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.

My heart is breaking for loss of a friend I never met in person but who was always there for my little Chloe and me when I needed answers or I was just plain scared. I will remember you and miss you always. You were so much to so many people. You did make a difference and the world is a better place for having had you in it. Rest in peace, Dr. Jack. We were very sad to hear of Dr. Oliver's passing. He was always considerate, helpful, and kind to myself (UTCVM '03)and my wife Tracy (UTCVM '04). We spoke to him at many CE meetings since graduation and he always seemed genuinely interested in our lives. It is a great loss when such a good and caring person passes. I never spoke with Dr.Oliver directly but I belonged to the K9 Cushings group with which he communicated regularly. He was so generous with his knowledge and assistance. My deepest sympathy to his family. He will be sorely missed.

A thank you to Dr. Oliver for identifying atypical cushings in Honey. When her numbers increased he recommended stronger medicines, she is 14 1/2 now and doing well. He worked closely with my vet. Sincere sympathies are sent to his family and co workers.

Over the years, he personally answered telephone calls and replied to countless emails from our members worldwide -- always with such helpful information, always with compassion, always for the sake of our dogs, always signed simply and humbly "Regards, Jack." He was such a kind and learned man. We shall miss him terribly. On behalf of all our dogs who he saved and on behalf of all our lives that he touched, we send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Thank you, Dr. Oliver, and Godspeed.

I will be forever grateful to this wonderful man. Without him my Snuggles' atypical Cushings would never have been diagnosed.So many families with fluffs will have happier and better lives thanks to Dr. Jack because of his personal attention (we exchanged a few emails) and research.

Dr. Oliver gave me a job in the endocrinology laboratory at UTCVM while I was undergrad trying to get into veterinary school. I learned so much from working in the lab and he was kind enough to write me a letter of recommendation which helped me get into UT and become a veterinarian. He was an extremely kind man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. I owe him so much for giving me a chance at a wonderful career for which I will be ever grateful. He also helped me personally when my own dog was diagnosed with Cushing's disease. He always had time for questions and was ever patient with students as well as veterinarians who called the lab.

Because of his dedication and commitment to veterinary medicine, hundreds of thousands of lives were touched by Dr. Oliver. My sweet little terrier and I were among them. He came to me at 10 years of age with undiagnosed Cushing's disease. Because of Dr. Oliver's generous and giving spirit and his willingness to assist and interact with CCAC (as well as the fine training of my vets under Dr. Oliver's tutelage) we had six more wonderful years together - and it was not Cushing's that took him. Thank you, Dr. Oliver. May God bless and bring peace to your wonderful family, too.

Dr. Oliver is one of those wonderful professors who made me wish I had gone to UT Vet School instead of another one - his brilliance and compassion, his willingness to help colleagues and their patients was unsurpassed. No matter who you were he readily answered your questions like you were an old friend- You could feel the warmth, compassion and smile through the phone- The legacy he leaves is immense- Godspeed Dr. Oliver- you will be well missed. My heart felt sympathy to his wonderful family- I know this loss is so very hard to take- please know you are not alone in your sorrow today

I am also one of the many who "met" Dr. Oliver through email and by sending blood samples. He was very kind, and so knowledgeable and compassionate, and he always answered my questions personally. Due to his research, my Clyde lived to be 14 years old with Atypical Cushings' Disease, and my Bailey to 15 with Cushings Disease. Thank you to a great man, and my prayers and thoughts are with his family, his friends and colleagues. Godspeed and God Bless.

Dr. Oliver leaves a legacy of compassion and advances in veterinary care which will live on forever. I feel incredibly honored to have had the chance to correspond and speak with him. He brought light into a very dark time in my life - and helped me gain real, valuable, quality time with my best friend.

Dr. Oliver helped me many times while I was treating my two boys who had Cushing's disease. He always answered my emails, and showed me much compassion during that difficult time. I will never forget his kindness. My prayers go out to his family and friends and I wish you all peace and comfort.

Dr. Oliver was a rare vet and scholar who shared his time and extensive wisdom to help our most trusting and loving companions when others could not. Because of Dr. Oliver and his research, my dog's illness is under control today and she is experiencing a quality of life that is far superior than her life before Dr. Oliver's diagnosis and treatment. While I am certain he will be greatly missed by those closest to him, his loss will be felt around the world by the many people and dogs that he has helped through his research and compassion. Thank you, Dr. Oliver, for everything.

Dr. Oliver was always the same from day 1 at UTCVM - Kind, friendly and always smiling. In my 30 years at UTCVM, he never failed to smile and speak to me. He was a great professor as well as a great person. He will be missed. My prayers to the family for peace and comfort in knowing that he was loved by many.

Dr. Oliver was always one of the student favorites. He always talked to you as an equal no matter the question. Several years ago he was instrumental in helping determine a problem with one of my own dogs. The vet school is definitely a better place because of his contributions. He will be greatly missed.

My Snoopie & I were one of the many blessed ones that Dr. Oliver never met. I was amazed that a man of his standing took the time to answer our
e-mails, usually the same day. His willingness to personally share his knowledge prevented my Snoopie from being put on the wrong course of treatment and saved her life.
My heartfelt condolences to the Oliver Family. He was truly an amazing sole.

In class, he always would start out very solemn and business like...then someone would ask a question and that little grin would start in the corner and go across. He loved teaching and taught well. I never would have made it through Pharmacology without his touch. A great man has passed.
