Megan Schoenmaker Obituary

Megan Schoenmaker Okemos Megan went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on December 27, 2010 at the age of 22 years old. She died happy doing what she loved, spending time and snowmobiling with the love of her life Phil Anderson. Megan was born February 19, 1988, to Martin and Patti Schoenmaker in Providence Rhode Island. Megan recently graduated from Rasmussen College School of Nursing in Ocala, Florida. She was looking forward to a career in women's health, for which she had a real passion. Her "daddy" an OB/Gyn physician was very proud of this. Megan had a love of horseback riding, especially with her BFF Madison Foote. She was an animal lover. She donated her horse, Prince, to a therapeutic riding facility. Her loyal rescue dog, Dirck, is going to miss her daily loving. She will be deeply missed by her dad and mentor, Martin and her mom and best friend, Patti. Her life, long friend and brother, Kyle, will miss the love and advice only an older sister can provide. She will be missed by the love of her life, Phil - they were to be engaged this summer. She is also survived by her grandparents, Jerry and Lany Schoenmaker and Dave and Evelyn Fiet, and many close cousins, aunts and uncles that will miss the great times spent together. Megan has friends all over the United States who will miss her but remember her fondly. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Riverview Church, 3585 Willoughby Rd, Holt, Michigan, at 5:00 p.m. Visitation will be at the church from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Because of Megan's many passions we request you make contributions in her name as you feel led to Sparrow Hospital Foundation, Women's Services, PO Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909 or Camp Casey (an equine therapeutic riding camp for ill children), 333 W. 7th Street, Ste 230, Royal Oak, MI 48067, or to Capital Area Humane Society, 7095 W. Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI 48906. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing. On line condolences may be made to www.gorslineruncimaneastlansing.com.

May all of your family and friends provide you the comfort, understanding and patience in your time of grief. Our thoughts and prayers, like so many others, are with you.

Loved working with Megan. We both loved our horses/riding, nursing, helping people. We worked together and I had the privileged to train her as a HUC. Our biggest connection was that we both knew the Lord. We had many conversations about Jesus using our lives to honor and glorifying God. I know wherever and whatever she did was because she wanted to live her life as a light to the lost. She was beautiful, and eloquent in how she spoke. Bubbly, cheerful, and full of life. Whenever I saw her at church she would always embrace me with a warm hug and open arms. She will be missed... As short as her life was she lived it purposefully and for God. She mattered to many and made a difference wherever she went whatever she did. See you later little sister! Love forever, <3 Janet

Your love and admiration of her was so apparent to me. Mike and I and our children will pray for Megan, for you, and for your entire family. The power of prayer is amazing. God will help you through these very difficult days. Dear Schoenmaker family and Phil,
I was with a group of people that were one of the first to come up to Megan on the trail that night. Everyone there did everything they could do to help. I watched Phil try and do everything possible to try and save her. As we rode back to our hotel we stopped and looked up in the clear star fillled sky, we just knew she was up there. I have been snowmobiling since I was a little kid and I could not wait to get home to hug my kids and wife. Peace be with your family in this difficult time.

Dr. Schoenmaker and family,

My daughter just called to inform me of this horrible and tragic news. It is times like this that we ask God "why"..so many whys! How can such wonderful people who have given so much to others be dealt this kind of grief and pain? I have been a patient for many many years and am greatly sadden for your loss. Please know that God does have a plan for all of us and, we must accept his fate. I did not know Megan but, be proud of the person you helped her become...the mirror image of yourself! She had to be a "perfect" soul as her time on earth was complete. May you cherish all of the memories, and may they help heal your hearts and ease your pain. I pray God will comfort all of you and grant you strength in healing. My thoughts and prayer are with you. Sincerely, Sharon Risko

Dear Dr. Schoenmaker, Patti and Kyle:
I want to express my sincere sympathy in your great loss. My husband and I count Ken Thompson as a great friend. I know he is blessed to be your friend and brother in Christ. When he shared about Megan my heart began aching for you. My beloved husband was suddenly ushered into the Lord's presence in July, and the void left in my heart, soul, a body is unexplainable.

However, I think alot about Heaven and celebrating in the Very Presence of the God who created us and made salvation possible for all. Megan's obituary is a great honor to her and to our Creator God. May the God of all Comfort be with you in very special and unexpected touches as you begin the Journey of Grieving such a tremendous, shocking loss of your much loved daughter and sister.
Respectfully submitted,

Martin, Patti & Kyle and Phil too,
Dave M. called me to let me know. I can't even imagine what you are going through. Having just read your Christmas letter and learning that Meghan had graduated from nursing school and that she had a "serious suitor" Phil, I am so shocked to hear the horrible news. I remember you and Patti dating and courting and was smiling when I read about Megan and Phil. I am sooooooo sorry. My love goes out to all of you!
