Abel Christopher Zavala

Abel Christopher Zavala Memorial Mass for Abel Christopher Zavala, 45, of Wylie, Texas, and formerly of Lubbock will be today at 10 a.m. at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church with Father James O'Connor officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home and Chapel. Abel passed away Aug. 8, 2011, in Wylie after lengthy illness and courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 1, 1965, in Lubbock to Theodore and Francisca Zavala. He graduated from Estacado High School in 1983. He worked as a cook for several restaurants and hotels in Lubbock and Arlington. He married Valerie Hodges on April 24, 2010, in Dallas. He is survived by his wife and mother; two sons, Bryan Zavala of Lubbock and Bryson Zavala of San Antonio; four stepchildren, Sedrick, Mahlon, Jasmine and Ashton; sisters, Sylvia Zuniga and Alice Zavala Camacho, both of Lubbock; brothers, John Zavala of Lubbock and Paul Zavala of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
