Naomi Schulman Obituary

Naomi Z. Schulman
8/26/1923 - 11/17/1923
Resident of Palo Alto
Mrs. Naomi Zion Schulman of Palo Alto passed away peacefully in the company of her children on November 17, 2013. She was born in Lawrence, Long Island, New York on August 26, 1923 to Irving and Libby Zion. She was a graduate of Woodmere Academy and Cornell University. In 1950 she married Dr. Irving Schulman. They lived in Lawrence until 1958 when they moved to Glencoe Illinois. In 1972 they continued their slow migration west and settled in Stanford where Dr. Schulman was chairman of the Pediatric Department at Stanford Medical School. Naomi also worked at Stanford for over 25 years in the Computer Systems Lab. They both were big Stanford football fans and maintained their season tickets for 25 plus years.
Naomi touched so many hearts with her compassion, intelligence, and incredible sense of humor, which is clearly evident in the photo she chose for this obituary. Naomi donated both time and money to hundreds of organizations. Her commitment to these causes and organizations, and her generosity towards them are the reasons her children often referred to her as "the world's quietest philanthropist." After leaving Stanford, she continued to work by volunteering as a "grandparent reader" to children learning English as a second language. She enjoyed this work immensely.
Naomi was predeceased by her husband of 59 years in 2009. She is survived by her daughter Margaret Miller and husband Chris Bradford of Mountain View, son John Schulman and his partner Scott Finley of Andes, New York, and grandchildren Jennifer Miller Holland and husband Tyler Holland, and Joshua Miller all of New York City.
A memorial service will be Sat. Nov. 23rd at 3 P.M. at Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary,96 W. El Camino Real, Mtn.View. Please view/sign guestbook at: cusimanocolonial.com

How can I take you to lunch tomorrow for your birthday if you're no longer here? You certainly found an ironclad way of weaseling out of having won ton soup at Chef Chu's. I still miss you, my dear friend, especially your laugh and your snarky observations!! There will never be anyone quite like you. You have a very special place in my heart - and always will!

With much love, Sally

Dear Schulman Family,
I count myself as one of the fortunate people to have known Naomi. No one will miss her as much as you, but many will mourn her passing and will remember her with a smile. She was certainly one of a kind. My sympathy and love go out to you. Alicia
