Kathi Ludwig Obituary
The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office says Kathi Jeanne Ludwig was climbing the 14,000-foot mountain in far northern California on Sunday with her husband and several other people, including two guides.
Sheriff's spokesman Randy Bigler says the group was at about 11,000 feet when Ludwig was struck in the torso by the watermelon-sized rock, which knocked her back about 15 feet. She suffered broken ribs and other fractures during the fall.

A few weeks ago Kathi was on my mind and I was remebering how good it was to work with and for her at the bank. She cared deeply for people and was always a joy to be around. Today I learned of her passing... I am grieved for your loss. So full of life and joy... I loved her laugh and can still remember it.. She had such a wonderful spirit! I hope she is climbing some huge mountians in heaven awaiting a reunion with those she loved and cared for!

The world lost a great one on july 4th. I will miss aunt kathi's carrot and mustard mash potatoes. She can shine her light even brighter now. She was there with uncle mike for me and my sister when we lost our mom and dad and that meant so much. Mike: Howard just informed me of the tragic loss of Kathi. She loved the BeliefCloset Process, which she was studying with me. She was a bright and shining light in our class, a true heart-woman. Her loss brings to mind this song:
"When you born, you cried, and the whole world rejoiced.
Live your life so that when you die, the world cries, and you rejoice."
I know that she lived her life that way. May her bright spirit live inside of us, inspiring us to live that way, too.

I had the pleasure of working with Kathi several years ago at a Silicon Valley startup and had the honor of remaining friends much longer. I had just moved into the country and Kathi has been a wonderful friend, guiding me through some my life's toughest decisions in what was typically Kathi's way - with a smile, untiring support and encouragement.
Kathi helped me conquer my fear of the outdoors - she gave me my first backpacking guidebook and gear. Kathi I pray that your spirit may find its peace in the outdoors you loved so much. Mike my prayers and thoughts are with you.

It is hard not to focus on what a tragic loss this is. Kathi's warmth and love for life has made such an impact on the people she has come across. I for one (of many) will remain touched by her the rest of my life, and in that sense she lives on through us. Along with the grief we must celebrate who Kathi was...pretty sure she wouldn't want it any other way.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kathi a few years ago when she booked the Warner Hutton House for her wedding.My name is Nina Walker and I coordinate facility rentals for the City of Saratoga. I didn't know Kathi very well but she was a wonderful friend to my two daughters, Angie and "Peaches". They truly cared for her and will miss her terribly. My heart broke the moment I heard the tragic news. Although I have only known Kathi for a few years, I knew from the first time I met her that she was special and would become an immediate friend. Her laughter, smile, and the sparkle in her eyes are etched in my brain. She was a constant topic of conversation between Peach and I on all the wonderful things she was doing, always helping others. From many years ago when I knew Kathi...two memories leap to mind (aside from Kathi's love of her dogs, of course). First was how Kathi and Mike met -- and her awe about it. She told me they were perfectly suited to each other (they were), but their paths crossed ONLY because of the internet. A few years earlier, and they never would have met.
The second was Kathi telling me she was really born a blonde, but she always felt she was meant to have red hair. So Kathi will always get credit from me, because she thought of it first (no surprise).
With great sadness and sympathy, my condolences to Mike and to Kathi's family.

Kathi was a radiant spirit. She ardently volunteered and raised money for our agency, carrying the Support Network’s emblem with her to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro in 2007. She could barely contain her joy when she returned and shared her adventure with us! She was a friend and a blessing. Godspeed, Kathi.
