Daniel Leon Obituary

Daniel Robert Leon
Sept. 12, 1980 - June 20, 2013
Resident of San Jose
Daniel "Danny or Dan" Robert Leon, 32, born in Watsonville, CA, completed his earthly life in Santa Clara, CA. The loving son of Robert "Bob" J. and Nancy K. (Thorne) Leon; dedicated brother to Amy Renteria (Sandro) and Gregory Leon; doting uncle to Delina, Ariana, Kayla, Ashlyn, Brianna, Makenzie and Julian; and devoted husband to Leahi Hall.
As a testament to his Bay Area roots, Danny was an avid Giants, Sharks, Warriors and 49ers fan. His love of sports began as a Cambrian Park Little League baseball player, continued as he played basketball at Ida Price Middle School and Del Mar High School, expanded to soccer, and progressed into a coaching career where he positively affected hundreds of young athletes with his love and knowledge of softball, basketball and volleyball. After coaching softball and basketball at Del Mar, he transitioned to a career at City Beach Volleyball Club where he helped manage one of the largest and most successful volleyball clubs in the nation. Whether sitting next to him on a couch watching a game on TV or on the bench while one of his teams was competing, his analytical abilities matched by his enthusiasm, and tempered by his fair-mindedness, were on display.
As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Danny faithfully served a two year mission in the Spain, Las Palmas Mission, honorably serving the people of the Canary Islands.
On July 31, 2010, on the beautiful Hawaiian Island of Maui, Danny married the love of his life, Leahi Hall, daughter of Isaac and Dana Hall, and Maui became his favorite place to visit. He will be remembered diving into the warm waters at Makena and standing in the shade of the Kukui trees.
Danny was technologically savvy, an avid reader, and an intellectual giant. He recently received a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from San Jose State University, while tending to his full-time position at City Beach.
Aloha, Danny, til we meet again . . .
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 28th, from 5-9pm at Darling & Fischer Chapel of the Hills, 615 N. Santa Cruz Ave., Los Gatos, CA 95030. On Saturday, June 29th, there will be a brief viewing from 9-9:30am at the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1336 Cherry Ave., San Jose, CA 95125, followed by a 10 am Memorial Service. Danny will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery, 300 Curtner Ave., San Jose, CA.

One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.

Elder Leon had a lot of heart and was an excellent missionary! He worked hard and would get so excited when we found people to teach. It was an honor to be his companion in the Canary Islands. One day we'll look back on our mortal journey and have a lot of 'remeber when' mements with the great Elder Leon. Love you

I'll admit it... I had a crush on Danny in high school! I'm sure I wasn't the only one... he had a quiet charm, charisma and presence that most guys his age didn't have. I can only imagine how his strengths and talents must have flourished in the "real world." Reading these entries it's clear he was a blessing to many and left a lasting impression that will be treasured by his loved ones for years to come. Even in his passing he has ministered to others, including me.

God bless you and keep you, Danny and your loving family.

You have my deepest and most heart-felt sympathy. Your brother, husband, son, uncle will be truly missed, but he gave up this life to be one of God's star coaches in Heaven. I think he is very happy. May God bless you and bring you through this difficult time in your life. If he brings you to it, he will most certainly bring you through it. You can count on that.

Elder Leon was one of my zone leaders while I was a new missionary on the island of Gran Canaria. I distinctly remember a visit that we made together while on splits. His desire to teach and help the individual that we were with was very evident in his words and actions. I respected his leadership and his ability to weigh a difficult situation or problem in his mind and provide us younger missionaries with a well-measured and articulate answer. While my wife and I are very saddened to hear of Elder Leon's passing, I feel grateful that I was able to work side-by-side with such a great person.

Love this boy. Words can't express the sorrow I feel for the loss of this young life. He proudly served as a missionary in Spain and touched the lives of many. Those who have been blessed to know Danny know that he was and is a special young man with a huge heart. Danny, as you look down on your family from above help them through this tough time. You will be greatly missed.

While Dan's life was short, his impact on others remains far and wide. Dan always had a funny way of looking at tough situations. I enjoyed watching his progression as a player and coach at City Beach. Those 4 walls will never be the same. Everyone he knew is blessed for the relationship they had with Dan. I hope Leahi and his family can draw strength from all of us that cared about him. He will be dearly missed

Daniel Leon was a great friend to me while he was on his mission in the canary islands and to many...

He was humble yet charismatic and genuine to the core; I liked him the moment I met him. I wish I could have seen him one last time, but I suppose I'll have to wait.

My most absolute and sincere condolences to the wise people who brought Daniel close to them in their lives or were gifted with him from birth; you lost a beautiful soul today as heaven gained one.
