Joseph McCaughan Obituary

Joseph McCaughan
Dec 13, 1954 - May 29, 2012
Resident of San Jose
Joseph Daniel McCaughan passed on May 29, 2012 in San Jose California. Joe was born December 13, 1954 to Donald and Ngaire Mc Caughan in Palo Alto California. Joe was raised in Cupertino and graduated from Prospect High School in June 1972. Joe attended West Valley College and graduated with an A.A. His major and true passion was computer programing. Joe played tennis at West Valley and later persevered to be ranked in the State of California. Joe did not marry, but stayed with many church activities: pen pal to a young girl in China, leading services in the Rescue Missions, children's ministry and the sound booth weekly. Joe joined the Home Church in 1982. Joe considered the members of the church his family and Joe was a faithful Christian and loved Jesus with all his heart. When Joe was little he often sang. As an adult, Joe was always singing solo or along with praise and worship tapes. Joe worked most of his life as a computer programmer and landed a dream job in January 2011 at an international company. He enjoyed his work. In October 2011, Joe was diagnosed with cancer. With the expertise of Dr. Steven Scates, Joe fought the disease with courage and humility. Before he succumbed to the disease, he exhibited a grateful spirit and expressed his sincere thanks for all the relatives and friends who visited and prayed for him. Joe will always be remembered as a gentle, caring spirit with a great love for children and a deep faith in the Lord.
Joe is survived by his Step Father, Jack Ruch; a brother Jeffrey Kern; two sisters, Susan McCaughan, Patty McCaughan Ford; Step Mother, Velma McCaughan. Joe had a niece, Megan Harcopian; and a nephew Maxx I. Ford; in addition to many other nieces and nephews; Wendy, Jennifer, Shannon Kern, and John Scott Kern; along with many cousins in California and Texas.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the excellent care Joe received from all the staff members of Good Samaritan Hospital. A special mention goes to the Staff of Almaden Health and Rehabilitation whose dedication and diligence in daily caring of Joe will always be remembered and greatly appreciated. The kindness, care and thoroughness of both facilities were exemplary examples of superior patient care. In addition, the staff and members of the Home Church all went beyond the call of duty and service in being truly supportive, loving and prayerful toward Joe, exhibiting their true Christian beliefs and faith.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30am on Thurs, June 7 at The Home Church 1799 Winchester Blvd, Campbell, with a Gathering and Fellowship to follow at noon. A Graveside Service will follow at 2:30pm at Los Gatos Memorial Park 2255 Los Gatos-Almaden Road San Jose.
Flowers may be sent to the church at 9:30am Thurs, June 7. If a donation is preferred, in lieu of flowers, please forward to the American Cancer Society or the Home Church. Please forward condolences and any correspondence to P. Ford 132 Third Avenue Daly City CA 94014.

Joe was a blessed friend and brother (in the Lord) with whom I used to hang out with (at times) while at Calvary Community Church (in the late 1970's). I remember his great love for the Lord (he mentioned about getting saved during the watching of the movie "Ben Hur") and being really good at tennis. He also had a very infectious smile and laugh but when it came to the things of the Lord he was very serious about it (since he had a very serious and genuine faith). He was a blessed brother and I look forward to seeing him again some day in glory!!

Joe was best man at my wedding and a great friend. We would faithfully get together 1X month and go for dinner, then chess which he'd always beat me at.

Joe loved God and loved to worship Him. He became a Christian after watching "Ben Hur" by himself.

It's hard to believe you're gone Joe, but I know I'll see you again in Jesus' presence.

Worked with Joe in the tech ministry at Home Church. A wonderful saint who loved serving and worshiping the Lord...

Joe has been missed while he was out sick, and will be missed now that he has gone to be with God. I will always remember how good he was at making sure our music was just right on the screen at Home Church. And mostly, how blessed I would feel as he raised his hands high in worship as we were singing the worship songs. He was a great worship leader to me whether he was in the back at the tech booth or sitting in the sanctuary. Enjoy Heaven Joe. We miss you here.

I first met Joe when we worked together in the 1 year-old's class in the early '80s. The children loved Joe and I remember him just giggling as he held each one. Pure joy! He was a great example to my own sons and we will miss him greatly.

A life well-lived with humility and love...he was a big brother in my youth group in the 1970s.

My husband and I met Joe at a Calvary Community Bible Study. His joy and faith were infectious to all who came into contact with him. We only regret that we lost touch. Gratefully we will one day be united with our precious brother. Our deepest condolences for the loss of your son. Sincerely, Rick and Rebecca DeFiglio
