A Thornton from the North Sends Love
Douglas Thornton

Indeed my own brother alive today was named after Kathrine's father as Matthew Blake Thornton.
I sat together with "aunt" Kathrine our last time in the fall of 1978... at which time she paraded me around to several homes in Mobile she was proud to be selling, and also shared some music with me and took me out to dinner. The first time I ever laid eyes on Kathrine (my memory at age 6 when we visited Jacksonville has somewhat escaped me now) when I was about 12 years old...was when she and Cacky (Nancy) visit us (John ("Jack"), Betty, John Jr, Matt, and Douglas) when we lived in Raymond, Maine... as only she could seem to thrill me with her ways as well as my aunt Gladys (the actress)...loving sister and mentor to my father Jack. My mother always had a keen love and kinship with Kathrine. Kathrine's love for Jack was also inspiring. I never took more time aside from my life to check in on Kathrine, but my heart goes with her on her way to the peaceful place she has earned to rest.
May God be with you forever, our dear and loving Kathrine...as you only leave behind you a legacy of caring and love for everyone you touched yourself...
Love,
Douglas Stewart Thornton

When the two Kathryns met, it was Kismet. Kathryn S. Reed (our mother) met "Mama Dill" (your mother) and I really don't remember where but there was an instant connection. "Miss Dill" became our mother's mentor. She was my piano teacher, my brother's producer and a great friend and example of how to be a successful person. The key: care about others; give of yourself and ALWAYS soldier on. I remember her pansies, her kitties, her style and grace but most of all her "Joie de Vivre". Thank you my Lord, for placing her on this earth and bringng her into my life! I love you all because you're her's. Linda Reed Banning ~

Mama Dill, as she was called by our family, will always be remembered as one of the most kind and giving people ever known. The world is a better place by her having been here and all the lives she touched. Love and prayers go out to her family.
