JAMES SELLERS Obituary

James Edson Sellers, Jr. died Friday February 22, 2013. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 27th at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Road, NW, Atlanta, GA 30305.

James "Jim" was born March 1, 1935 to Kate Long Thompson Sellers and James Edson Sellers in Montgomery, Ala. Jim grew up in Montgomery where he graduated from Sidney Lanier High School. Upon graduation from The Citadel in Charleston, SC in 1956, Jim moved to Atlanta where he began his career in commercial real estate by joining the First National Bank of Atlanta's executive training program. For two decades, he specialized in office building leasing in both downtown and midtown Atlanta for First National Bank Building Corporation, Colony Square Company and Peachtree Center. In 1980, Jim expanded his career by specializing in the general brokerage side of office leasing with Afco Realty for several years before forming a partnership in the Wesley, Bell & Sellers real estate company in 1985. Until his retirement in 2002, Jim prospered and enjoyed his work. He loved nothing better than cold calling each and every tenant in an office building, striving for new relationships and sales opportunities for himself and his family. Jim was dedicated to his family in every way, never wavering from his true passion of serving as a supportive husband and father. He was also a scholar of American history, spending endless hours studying the Civil War, American presidents and America's military history in the World Wars. For many years he loved dove hunting with friends, especially looking forward to annual dove shoots with his father-in-law in middle Tennessee. Although Jim didn't attend the University of Alabama, he was Crimson Tide through and through.

Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years Carol Williams Sellers. He is also survived by his daughters, Temple Sellers McDaniel and Kate Sellers Stotts, his son-in-laws William Seth McDaniel and Eric Edwin Stotts and grandchildren Sellers Thompson McDaniel, William Seth McDaniel, Jr. and Thomas Long Stotts. He is also survived by his sister Katherine Sellers Edwards.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cathedral of St. Philip or to Hospice Atlanta, Office of Advancement, Visiting Nurse Health System, 5775 Glenridge Drive, NE, Suite E200, Atlanta, GA 30328.
