Roy E. Miracle

NEWARK: A funeral service for Roy E. Miracle, age 80, of Newark, will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, at the First United Methodist Church, Newark, with Rev. Mark Chow officiating.

Mr. Miracle passed away on Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center (operated by Hospice of Central Ohio). He was born July 8, 1930 near Marietta, Ohio to the late Earl Clarence and Laurabie (Van Fossen) Miracle.

Roy was a veteran of the United States Army. He built homes for the James K. Swain Company for over 25 years and was the owner of Miracle's Remodeling for over thirty years. Roy was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he often helped with cooking, the fellowship table and coffee hour and was a member of the Candlelighters. Roy and his wife, Reola, went on multiple mission trips with the youth of the church each year where they would help build and remodel homes. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #804 in St. Louisville. He was a mentor to many men.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Reola D. (Brown) Miracle, whom he married March 21, 1954; and by a daughter, Juli A. Miracle of Newark; a son, Steven R. (Mary Lynn) Miracle of Upper Arlington; two step-grandchildren, Glenn and Alexa; a sister, Viola Jurden of Newark; a brother, Kenneth Miracle of Round Rock, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and close friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Nichols and Myrtle Wills; and by a brother, Edward Miracle.

A special thanks to friends at First United Methodist Church for their many acts of kindness and to Hospice of Central Ohio for their excellent care.

Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, at the church, 88 North Fifth Street, Newark.

As an OSU fan myself I can understand and appreciate the tribute. He worked for my father, Jim Swain, when I was young and I remember talking with him when we would visit Dad on one of the houses they were building.
What wonderful and fun memories you must have of him. All my best to you and your family. Kathy Swain

Dad is now the permanent "I" in 0-H-I-O. This pic is on the OSU O-H-I-O site!! I have no doubt this gave dad a giggle and smile!

Reola,

I'm sorry that I won't be able to make the calling hours but I wanted to let you know how much Roy will be missed. You are two of the nicest people I know and his loss will leave a huge void at the First U.M. Church. I remember teasing both of you on several occasions when you were working late at night at the church preparing food for a meal that you should just bring cots and spend the night. And there was the time when my daughter was locked out of the house and Roy tried to help her get in. He was a very kind man. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
