CHAUNCEY SMITH Obituary

Chauncey Smith passed away December 27, 2010 in Edgewater, Florida. He was born April 18, 1927 in Avoca, NY and lived most of his life in Hamlin, NY. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Reta Scopes Smith; daughters, Adair Korn, Gail (Mike) Nowak; grandchildren, Shea Korn, April Korn, Heather Conley; great grandchildren, Isaiah Curtis-Korn, Sophia Conley; brothers, Frank (Sharon) and Bob (Sandy); sister, Doris; sister in law, Geri Kulzer and many nieces and nephews. He was employed for 30 years at Duffy Mott Co. in Hamlin, NY and 17 years at Curtis-Burns, in Leicester, NY. Soon after he retired, he moved to Edgewater, FL. Chauncey began training horses as an adolescent. He could ride any horse and people looked to him for advice. He raised, trained and showed horses. He was president of the NY Palomino Horse Exhibitors Association for several years. Chauncey made a national champion of his horse, Cara Mia's Torch, who is in the palomino hall of fame. Chauncey was also involved with the Prayer Riders 4-H horse club in Orleans County, NY. The children all loved and admired him and he cherished them also. His joy was being a deacon at Bella Vista Baptist Church and helping wherever he could. He studied the Bible every day and liked to witness and visit people. He was a great story teller, all were his personal experiences. A memorial service will be held on December 31, 10:30 AM, at Bella Vista Baptist Church, Ridgewood Ave, Edgewater, FL. A memorial service in NYS will be on January 8, 2 PM at Thomas Burger Funeral Home, Hilton. Donations can be made to Bella Vista Baptist Church Building Fund or Halifax health hospice of Volusia/Flager located 4014 S. Ridgewood Ave, Edgewater, FL 32141

we will miss chauncey. will miss see his wounderful smile in the summer time and seeing him at kendall parade as we pass by on our horses,he will be miss by us
