Christopher SMITH Obituary
Christopher J. "Critter", 13 of Newport passed away on April 21 at Children's Hospital. He is survived by his father Stan (Michelle) Smith, mother Carol Smith (Allen King), brothers, Stanley J. Smith, Jr, and Jeffrey S. Smith, sisters Jessica Smith and Rochelle Simmons, grandmother Wanda Purvis, grandparents Timothy and Kimberly Shiple and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tues, Apr 26 from 3-8 pm at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Services will be held Wed, Apr 27 at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Donations are requested to be made at any Fifth Third Bank to the Christopher Smith Benefit Fund

My daughter and I had the pleasure of meeting Critter a couple of times at Childrens. He was kind loving and helpful on bringing her to terms with her diagnosis. He was greatly loved by the staff and will be very missed.

Critter certainly was an amazing young man. There aren't many 13-year-old kids that have such a tremendous amount of friends that span the globe. He was a product of a well-adjusted family that loved and took good care of him; that they gave him such an abundance of love that he had to share it around the world. God bless his soul, and God bless the parents that he had.

Even though I never met this brave young man, to have known him through the pictures and articles through KISSONLINE was a real honor!!! My kids mean the world to me and this just breaks my heart... my cuzin waz talking bout this boy on the phone with me she waz saying some boy in her class died he waz 13 and his favorite color waz purple and he had cancer and i waz so sad when i heard that now im in school and i went to her computer and i saw this boy name that my cuzin gave me and i waz so SKOCKED but this stuff is really really sad but may he rest in peace <<<3

I never met Critter personally, but I followed his fight with leukemia on KOL; I often talked to my students about him, and how he was overcoming the hand that fate dealt him. He earned his stripes in the KISS army, and I'm sure he is now jamming with Eric Carr. God wants his favorites close to him, and I believe that's why he's no longer with us.

My heart aches for you and your family at this time, because I know firsthand your pain and sorrow. Critter, like our Natalie, was a fighter and a rock n roller. Take what little comfort you can in knowing his suffering is over and his memory lives on in the hearts and minds of all those who knew him. I will always remember him riding up and down the hallways on his IV pole with a big smile on his face and hanging out in the parent lounge with Leah and Liz.
From this experience I've learned two things: there is life after death and the bond with your child is never broken. Critter is still with you and will love and protect you always. Listen with your heart and you will hear him, feel him. May God and all his angels from A5S give you and your family the strength to carry on and live each day in Critter's honor.
