James Edwin "Jack" Haley

HALEY James Edwin "Jack" Haley passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2011. Age 86. Born August 8, 1925 in New Orleans, LA. Son of the late Lucille and Arthur "Buck" Haley. He was preceded in death in 2002 by his wife of 56 years, Louise Mary Griffin Haley. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Gennelle Haley-King of Colorado and Robin Haley Damron of Georgia, 4 grandchildren, Caitlin and Jeffrey King of Colorado and Hunter and Haley Damron of Georgia. Also survived by a former son-in-law, Wayne Damron. During WWII he served in the US NAVY as a machinist mate and Fireman First Class from 1943-1946 aboard the vessels USS Monticello in France, Germany and throughout the Pacific. He later served as a firefighter for the NOFD for 20 years. Upon retirement, Jack served as a sheriff's deputy for 17 years for the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office. After losing his home in Hurricane Katrina in 2005 he relocated to live with his daughter Robin and her children. Jack was a devoted and loving husband to Louise and caring father to his daughters. His children are forever grateful for the loving father he was to them and how hard he worked to instill integrity, responsibility and a sense of values in them. A true gentleman until the end, he will be sadly missed. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA. Burial took place in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
