RAY Margaret Maxine Ray, born April 16, 1928, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2011, at Covenant Nursing Home. She was 83 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Patten Ray. She is survived by her daughter Shirley G. Mayeux, three grandchildren: Wayne Mayeux, Michele Breaux, Levy Mayeux and four great grandchildren. She was one of the first female pilots in Louisiana, and learned to fly before she learned to drive. She was an artist and a quilt maker. Margaret loved children, she loved life, and lived life to its fullest. She retired from N.O. City Hall after 30 years of employment. She was a worthy matron of Loyalty Chapter 119 Order of the Eastern Star. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 11:00 am. Visitation from 9:00 am until time of service. Interment in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com.

She is sorely missed by my family and especially by me. She was tough, she only missed work when she fell in City Hall and broke her back. She was one tough cookie!!

I didn't know your loved one, but noticed her obituary in the news and was touched by what a wonderful life she must have had. What an accomplished person she was, one who as you noted loved life and loved children. I could only be as fortunate to be remembered as such a lovely person. You have my most sincere condolences.
