Michael McCARTHY Obituary

McCARTHY Michael J. Jr., age 63, died peacefully at his home on Mahwah on Monday March 28, 2011. Michael was born in Jersey City. The son of Betty (nee Colby) and the late Michael McCarthy Sr. He was a retired detective for the JCPD after giving 25 years of service to the people of Jersey City. He was the former chief of security for Sabrett in JC. Michael was US Army Vietnam Veteran serving his country from 1966 to 1972. Michael was a member of the Blue Knights of Bergen County, VFW of Jersey City and the American Legion. He is the beloved husband of Patricia (nee Magrella) McCarthy. Beloved son of Betty (nee Colby) McCarthy. Beloved father of Sharyn A. McCarthy and her fiancé Edward, and Michael B. McCarthy and his wife Heather. Loving brother of Gerard McCarthy. Beloved grandfather of Payton and Casey McCarthy. Also survived by nieces and nephews and brother and sisters-in-law. Funeral Friday April 1, 2011 at 9 AM from the Houghton Funeral Home 976 Summit Ave., (corner of Lincoln St.) JC. Funeral Mass 10 AM at St. Nicholas R.C. Church, JC. Burial Holy Cross Cemetery, N. Arlington, NJ. Visitation Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 PM.

When someone you care about is grieving, it's hard to find the right words. There is no words to ease the pain. I am so sorry to hear of this news. I grew up with this family and was treated like family. Aunt Pat, Sharyn, Mike I am so sorry for your lost. I wish i could take away your pain. I just heard this horrible news and my heart is broken. Uncle Mike was a great man and always made everyone laugh. This man will be dearly missed. I send my condolences to the family.

Mike and I were such great scholars that he and I were assigned to wax the convent floors in our senior year during homeroom and religion class on Fridays. To the MCCarthy family, the loss of a family member is very, very hard. My deepest condolences. Mike was one of the best guys I very known on the job. Patty and Family, I was very sad to hear of Mike's passing we were classmates from grades 1 thru 5 at St. Nicks. Many years later in 1972 Mike, myself, Jack Maraziti,& Billy Garrison were the last 4 guys to be assigned to the old Motorcycle & Mounted Squad the four of us trained together. I will never forget brother Mike. I never tired of his stories and his general good nature. I loved riding our Harleys together and always looked forward to seeing him & Patty at our meeting spot on Sunday rides.
