Kelly Archer Obituary

Kelly Rae Archer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Kelly, 50 years of age, passed away peacefully at home on December 31, 2013 after a two year battle with breast cancer.

Kelly was born January 4, 1963 in Sharon, Pa. to the late Raymond and Patricia Diefender-fer. The third of three children, Kelly is survived by older brothers, Keith Diefenderfer and his wife Linda of Slippery Rock, Pa., and Kevin Diefenderfer and his wife Martha (Val) of Hermitage Pa.; as well as many loving nieces and nephews and cousins.

Kelly is also survived by her devoted husband, Richard D. Archer (Rick) of Charlotte, N.C.; stepson, Jonathan M. Archer and his wife Elizabeth, formally of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and Hudson, Ohio now residing in Alexandria, Va.

Those of you who knew Kelly know why she had so many people in her life that loved her. She would light up a room when she entered. Her smile and sense of humor drew people to her.

Kelly had a great love for children and animals. Her dog Sam was a true joy in Kelly's life. Sam never left her side, even toward the end of her life.

Kelly had a love for travel. Whether it was our honeymoon in the New England states or a road trip to the beach with friends or just Sam and I, Kelly loved the journey. Like her life, these trips were very special.

I would like to thank family and friends for making Kelly's final weeks very special for the both of us. Brothers Keith and Kevin, their wives Linda and Val, all the family and friends who made the trip to Charlotte, cousin, Kim Gump and her husband John for all of the meals and special support they provided. Thanks to our dear friends Chris and Judy Arndt for the spiritual support they gave us. To our dear friends, Jon and Sandy for helping us any way they could. And to all the friends for all the very special phone conversations that lifted our spirits and kept us fighting this unforgiving disease.

A special thanks to all the wonderful staff at Presbyterian Hospital, and to nurse Nancy, social worker Gina, Nursing Aid Sharon and Chaplain John all working with Charlotte Hospice Care.

Per Kelly's wishes there will be no formal memorial service for Kelly in Pennsylvania where she grew up.

Kelly and I ask that you celebrate Kelly's life by remembering her the way she was, the good times you shared, and occasionally make a donation to Kelly's favorite cause, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, to help the children who suffer without a cure.

Sweetheart, this is not goodbye, I will be joining you in time and we will be together forever, as we always knew it would be.

I love you with all my heart.
