That was very nice article in the Daily Oklahoman today about SSG Schad & three other fine Oklahoma Soldiers who gave their life for our nation. I was an artillery officer myself during the Vietnam era but somehow was spared the awful experience of war. I have a tribute in wood that I do for the familes of fallen heroes. No cost to the family. Please contact me if you would like furhter information about Portrait Freedom. Best Wishes and God Bless you this Memorial Day.

You don't know me, but as a part of our church service today at Grace Episcopal Church in Liberty, MO, we each took a card with the name of a soldier who was killed in the war this year. We were asked to pray for the soldier, contact the family and honor the sacrifice.
The card that I pulled had the name Rex Schad on it. From reading the news articles and comments about Rex, he sounds like a remarkable young man. I'm sorry he never had the chance to become a teacher or politician. He served his country with honor and bravery.
Today I pray for comfort for all of his family and friends and fellow soldiers. I also pray for the repose of his blessed soul.
May God be with you this Memorial day weekend.
Sincerely,
Martha Huffman

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Rex will never be forgotten.
For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn't make it home.
I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .
I Salute You.

Schad, you were always the light in a dark room, I can't think of anyone else that could come close to how uplifting you were. You always walked around with a big smile and it rubbed off on everyone else no matter how tough the situation. My heart breaks for you and your family, but I do have comfort in one fact, you had run the good race, fought the good fight and if anyone on this earth was ready to take the next step in life it was you. Lead from the front brother and I can't wait to see you again.

In times like this we value in one clear instant the blessings of days we once thought of as ordinary. We suddenly know what enriches us are the family and friends we love and who love us in return.
Rex was a hero. A hero who was taught by a loving mother to love, respect and value life and all it had to offer.
Colleen, I will be forever grateful for Rex's service to our country.
May God bless you with peace in your heart, joy in your life and a sense of hope. You are loved.

~A PRAYER In Memory of Rex~
TO HIS FAMILY & HIS BUDDY'S…………THAT WILL NOW LIVE ON THROUGH HIS SPIRIT & STRENGTH
Merciful God and Father, graciously look upon the family of our departed brother, Rex Schad.
Remember us, his brothers and sisters in arms, in our sorrow and grief. Support us when we are unable to understand the things that happen to us and those we love.
Comfort and console us, and grant that through Your merciful help we may have courage to face the days ahead; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
Amen.

Dear family of Staff Sgt. Rex Schad,
God IS at work here…and I've incredible faith in the “PLAN”…but that doesn't displace the grief…nor should it. You must grieve…allow yourself the sadness and all that attends that! As a veteran and a “Friends of Electric Boat” Troop Supporter, I keep all our troops in harm's way, in daily prayer; I've used the following in the past as a grief enabler, and offer it, along with my sincerest ongoing prayers for your entire family. May God Bless and keep you all close during this truly sad time. And know we all appreciate the gift that is these fine, young heroes…and its cost!!! Email me via Contact Me and I'd be happy to forward this entry formatted for saving.
When my mother died, even after a years-long battle with cancer, I was shattered by the loss…inconsolable…she was my mentor! I like to think that I got my character from my father, but my mind and its capacity from m'dear sainted mother!!! BUT, "If your faith assures you she's in heaven, then what are the tears all about?!?" I hold eternity with My God dearly close...a cherished and hard-won prize...but, in the interim, that answer lies below.
SELFISH TEARS
(I EULOGIZE MY BELOVED MOTHER - MARCH, 1989)
Today we cry...must admit they're selfish tears.
You see...our faith assures your journey's done.
But it's not for you we mourn, at all, my dear;
It's for those of us you've left behind...alone!!!
We share your joy...share your happiness at rest,
Your painful fears now for forever stilled.
You've fought the good fight, passed the final test,
But you've left behind a hole that can't be filled!!!
So, until we each rejoin you some someday,
And, while your memory buoys us through those years,
We'll miss you...but continue on our way,
And, from time to time, we'll cry our selfish tears!!!
My sincerest condolences…my fondest prayers for peace and strength…
