Dear Shawn,
I know that you are now happy in the arms of your mother. Your mom left us in the presence of me, Melissa, and your unseen nieces and nephew on December 18, 2023. Many tears were shed by us all. Your mom suffered terribly near the end. Through the grace of God her suffering was mercifully terminated. She talked of her love for you constantly. She missed you terribly. Now you and your mom are cradled in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Till we all meet again, Dad.

I remember taking you on patrol with me at the Guadalupe Police Department. Your father and I spent so many hours together on patrol, I though you were destined to wear blue.
My heart still hurts for your family. I think of you often and can't believe that it'll be 12 years next Sunday that you were taken.
You hold a place of Honor in our minds and hearts. May you Rest In Peace!

Shawn, I know you have been in Heaven now for along time, and now you have gone home to be with your family. Where they can sit by your side and talk to you. They picked out a site under a tree just as you like the shade. I was there the day you were buried here in Athens, Ga and I was there the day you were sent home to be with your Parents and sister. Oh what an amazing site. Amanda could not be there I am sure you can understand why. She loved you so much she let you go to the ones who love you too. Amanda you are an amazing woman and a great daughter.I know that was so hard for you. And we are are @ peace.Shawn You have wonderful parents and your sister Melissa ia awsome. We all have closure and it's just what you would have wanted. My job is done here in Georgia I kept my promise to your dad and I kept my promise to myself that I would not let your memory ever die. Both assignments are complete now although I will continue to keep your memory alive I have peace within myself and I can now move on... Thank You Sgt Shawn Dressler you were and always will be MY HERO Love Teresa

Shawn or as we al called him Drez was a extremely special person. He was one of my soldiers throughout our tour in Baghdad. I am so glad that you all are doing this in his memory. For about 6 months while in Iraq Drez was my Bradley gunner and would make me laugh dispite the danger that lurked around each corner. He was and is an inspiration in my life each and every day.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Shawn, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

My heart goes out to you and your family. As do my prayers that God will Bless and keep you all during this time in your lives. My family did not know your loved one but know that He must have been one of the most wonderful men that God created. To have lived and died for not only the freedom and the peace of my family but for the entire UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
May God Bless and Keep you
Our Prayers are with you all.

There are no words that can express our gratitude for Shawn and his families sacrifice for us all, so the little that we can do is pray for comfort and peace at this time of your greatest loss. We have two sons in the Army serving this great nation and we honor Shawn, his wife and his family for their steadfast support not only of their soldier but of all the soldiers who serve. ~Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise;
when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me. Micah 7:8~

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

To all the Dressler Family. First I would like to express our gratitude to your family. As my family has had family members in multiple wars now, it is no easy task to watch a family member leave. In this last war when my nephew went to Iraq for his second tour it hit again the enormity of what a solider and their families sacrifices. Until this happens personally no one can ever know the extent of the sacrifice. So to the family I say a prayer of the acceptance of his will. I say a prayer for the peace of knowing people are not only praying for Shawn but are praising him for his dedication and ultimate sacrifice. I say a prayer for the tranquility that will one day overcome the family with the knowledge of people knowing the goodness of Shawn. I say a prayer that even though Thank You is not big enough it is the only big thing we can offer in your time of sorrow along with prayer. May God Bless the Dressler Family and may they find peace and love to heal their broken hearts.

Sgt. Shawn Dressler, US Army, American hero.
Thank you for your service and dedication. You sacrificed not only your life but your precious time away from your family and friends. Most persons your age prefer to stay home and enjoy the freedoms we have in America. Not you. You chose to fight to preserve our freedom and ensure the saftey of our great country. Your courage and dedication will be an everlasting legacy for generations to come. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Mrs. Tonya Dressler.
Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. As a mother and a mother of a US Marine I know the heartbreak and the torment of seeing your son off to war not once but twice. I remember all those sleepless nights. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family during this very difficult time. Please take refuge in knowing you raised a fine young man who gave his life to make this world a better place.
Mr. Cecil Dressler.
Thank you for your part in raising a fine young man with love, pride and honor. You must be proud to have raised an American Hero.
You are forever in my prayers.
Mrs. Amanda Dressler.
My deepest heartfelt sympathy to you. I saw in your eyes as you passed us by on Sunday morning the love you have for Shawn and the pain that reached the depths of your soul. I have never met Shawn but he will hold a special place in my heart.
God Bless Shawn, our Military, their families and our Great Country.

Thank you Shawn for your ultimate sacrifice for our country and to keep my 3 children safe. To his Mother and Father I cannot imagine the pain and loss they are feeling. I talked with your Uncle Scott yesterday, one of the most positive people I have known in my life and saw the pain in his eyes and heart. You will be missed so much, I am sure will live on through the people who loved you.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
