Bettie Swanson Obituary

Swanson, Bettie Mae 92 02/19/1918 02/12/2011 Bettie was born to James and Della Mullikin in Georgetown, Ky. She spent her early years in Kentucky until she met the love of her life, Norman Swanson, while he was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky. They married in 1944 and after the war and Norm's return from Europe, they moved to Seattle, Norm's hometown. While in Seattle, Bettie gave birth to sons William and James. In 1950, the family moved to Portland where she spent the rest of her life. She worked with her husband at Began Equipment Co. until Norman's death in 1966. She then went to work for Jewett, Barton, Levy & Kern in the accounting department until her retirement in 1983. Bettie loved to travel. She visited many countries around the world and numerous sites in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. She is survived by her sons, William and James; daughters-in-law, Beverly and Sally; and grandchildren, Heather and Joshua. There will be a service at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, in Willamette National Cemetery where she will join her deceased husband, Norman.

Dear Bill and Jimmie - Your mother was a delight. Her kindness in providing me a place to live back in 1978 while I studied for the bar and took it is a constant memory for me. My parents really cared for your mom and dad and we all remember the fun we had in the 50's when the families played together. Now that the golden generation is gone and no longer here to keep communication going, we should keep in touch.

My condolences to Bettie's family. I worked with her for only a couple of years before she retired from JBL&K, but I always enjoyed her spirit and wit.
